In the summer months of heat, administer Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria) 3 qian, combined with Ban he of Huangshukui Zi (Abelmoschus manihot seed), ground and decocted in water for oral administration.
In the winter months of cold, administer Wuji San (Five-Accumulations Powder) 3 qian, combined with Ban he of Huangshukui Zi (Abelmoschus manihot seed), ground and decocted in water for oral administration.
1. The pharmacological principle of inducing labor often employs properties that are slippery and rapid, such as Rabbit Brain (Tunao), Snake Slough (Shetui), Brush Tip (Bijian - referring to old brush heads), Crossbow Trigger (Nuya), and Jixingzi (Impatiens balsamina seed).
2. If amniotic fluid or blood is discharged first, causing dryness and astringency in the birth canal preventing delivery, substances such as Pig Lard (Zhizhiyou), Honey (Mifengmi), Ghee (Suyou), Scallion White (Congbai), Kuaizi (Huangshukui Zi/Abelmoschus manihot seed), Elm Bark (Yubaipi), Talcum (Huashi), and Cow's Milk (Niurou) may be used.
3. In cold weather, if labor is delayed due to prolonged exertion, allowing Wind-Cold pathogens to invade the uterus vacuously, causing Qi and Blood stagnation and preventing delivery, herbs such as Achyranthes Root (Niuxi), Scallion Stem (Conggeng), Wuji San (Five-Accumulations Powder), and Shunyuan San may be employed.
4. For cases involving taboo violations, methods such as Talismanic rites (Fufa), Cinnabar (Zhusha), and Frankincense (Ruxiang) may be utilized.
(Sixteen Methods)
Formula 1: Burn the crossbow trigger until red-hot, quench it in wine, and drink.
Formula 2: To expel a dead fetus, use Pingwei San (Pingwei Powder) one dose, add 3-4 qian of Mirabilite (Piaoxiao), soak and take; the fetus will be expelled immediately.
Formula 3: For inducing labor, burn Qianchuihua (Chisel Handle/Herb part) until carbonized but retaining its nature, grind into powder, and take with wine.
Formula 4: For inducing labor, swallow seven Huaijiaozi (Sophora fruit seeds); delivery will follow immediately.
Formula 5: Burn Fish Bladder Glue (Yubiao Jiao) over a lamp until carbonized, take 1 qian, mix with wine. Another method: stir-fry with sesame oil until charred, grind into powder, take 3 qian with wine; this is highly effective.
Formula 6: Burn damaged brush tips until carbonized, melt wax to make pills, take as one dose, swallow with wine.

Formula 10: For difficult labor or cases involving taboo violations, use Ming Ruxiang (Clear Frankincense), grind into powder, and take one bi (spoonful) mixed with wine.
Formula 11: For retained placenta, mix Baijili (Tribulus terrestris fruit) and Fumu (Fritillaria bulb) in equal parts, grind into powder, and take 2 qian mixed with rice water.
Formula 12: Stir-fry Chixiaodou (Adzuki beans) until cooked, boil in 2 sheng of water until reduced to 1 sheng, take the juice; delivery occurs immediately.
Formula 13: Have the parturient woman hold the tip of her own hair in her mouth; nausea induced will lead to delivery.
Formula 14: Decoct Jixingzi (Jinfeng Hua Zi/Impatiens balsamina seed, used by women for nail dyeing) and drink the soup; this facilitates easy delivery.
Formula 15: Grind Zaoshentu (Fireplace Earth) into powder, take 2 qian mixed with wine; this is effective.
Formula 16: Decoct Luoluozi San (Guofu Luo Nest Powder). (This refers to wasp nests on house walls, shaped like silkworm cocoons. It is said that encountering a double nest predicts a female child, and a single nest predicts a male child; it is extremely accurate.)
Xu Chunfu's Note: Formulas for inducing labor are widely recorded and numerous, primarily for convenience of use. Whether residing in markets or villages, circumstances differ. In urgent and hurried situations, when supplies are not fully prepared at hand, what is unavailable in one place can likely be found in another. This approach prioritizes accessibility and convenience.
