It is unknown which commandery he was from. He was skilled in medicine and had unique insights during diagnosis. One woman had been pregnant for two years, and another for fourteen months, yet neither gave birth. Upon examination, he stated, "This is not pregnancy; it is a disease." He prepared a decoction for them to drink. The woman who had been pregnant for two years expelled over a hundred pieces of flesh-like matter, while the one pregnant for fourteen months expelled a large snake. Both women survived.
His courtesy name was Qiqing, and he was from Tai'an. He practiced medicine with miraculous abilities to save lives and annotated five volumes of *Nan Jing* (Classic of Difficult Issues). During the Taiding era, his book was presented, and he was appointed as Medical Doctor (Yixue Boshi).
His courtesy name was Junzhang, and his pseudonym was Zhongyang Laoren. He was from Wu commandery. His aspirations and conduct were noble and pure, and his understanding of the Dao was true and clear, especially regarding medicine. He shunned worldly concerns and lived in seclusion at Mount Yu in Wu, where people called him the Hidden Gentleman (Yinjun). His medical writings surpassed those of others. From childhood to youth and old age, his regimen was orderly, and his arguments had profound meaning. Regarding various phlegm and fluid retention conditions complicated by fire pathogens, he investigated them meticulously. He formulated Guntan Wan (Rolling Phlegm Pill), which was extremely effective. His work was titled *Taiding Yangsheng Zhu Lun* (Discourse on the Master of Nourishing Life in the Taiding Era).
His courtesy name was Jinzhi. He served as the Guardian of Yuanzu Hanhai and was in charge of medicine. His medical skills exceeded those of ordinary people, and his medicines had extraordinary effects. When Emperor Shizu suffered from a foot ailment, he administered medicine, but the bitter taste made the Emperor refuse to drink it. Zhen said, "Good medicine tastes bitter but benefits the illness; loyal words sound harsh but benefit conduct." The Emperor agreed and drank the medicine, subsequently recovering.
His courtesy name was Zijing, and he was known in the world as Mr. Taiwu. He was proficient in medical arts, inheriting the tradition of Liu Hansu from the Jin dynasty, and was well-versed in the works of Zhang Congzheng and Li Gao, possessing unique insights. He preferred quiet and secluded places and disliked social interaction. Only Danxi was his favored disciple, so he taught him all that he knew.
His courtesy name was Yanxiu, and his pseudonym was Danxi. He was from Yiwu, Zhejiang. He loved learning since childhood, memorizing a thousand characters daily. He engaged in scholarly pursuits, lectured on the Dao at Mount Bahuashan, and became a disciple of Lord Xu Wenyi. One day, the Lord told him that his long-standing illness could only be cured by someone proficient in medicine. "You are clever and perceptive; perhaps you should practice medicine to help people?" Thus, Danxi devoted himself to medical formulas. Soon, he realized, "Adhering rigidly to ancient prescriptions to treat contemporary diseases is difficult to achieve fully. One must reference *Su Wen* (Basic Questions) and *Nan Jing*, exercising flexible judgment, to save the world." He then traveled to seek teachers, crossing the Zhe River into Wu, visiting Nanxu and Jianye, but found no suitable mentor. Upon returning to Wulin, he heard of Mr. Taiwu and went to pay respects. After several visits without being received, his request became more earnest, and finally, Mr. Taiwu received him. Using the books of Liu, Zhang, and Li to expound their principles, Yanxiu accepted instruction, his medical skills became more miraculous, and his fame grew. People seeking treatment from all directions converged on the roads like spokes gathering at an axle. He prescribed formulas according to syndromes, recording these cases for verification, and authored *Gezhi Yulun* (Remaining Discourses on Investigating Things) to reveal its secrets.
