Disciple of Bian Que. When the Crown Prince of Guo fell ill and died, Bian Que ordered his disciple Zi Bao to prepare "Wu Fen Zhi Wei" (Five-Part Herbal Compress) and "Ba Jian Zhi Ji" (Eight-Reduction Mixture), decoct them, and apply hot compresses to both hypochondriac regions, after which the prince was able to sit up.

(There was a Daoist priest) whose origin is unknown. He sold medicine in the market of Runan, hanging a gourd in his shop. After the market closed, he would enter the gourd, and no one could see him. Only Fei Changfang saw him from an upper floor and went to visit him with wine. The priest entered the gourd with him. Inside, they saw a jade hall, clear and beautiful, with fine wine and delicious food. After drinking together, they came out, and the priest said, "I am an immortal. Can you follow me?" Fei Changfang then followed the priest into the mountains to seek the Dao. The priest tested him by placing him alone among a group of tigers; Fei Changfang did not fear. He was then made to lie in an empty room with a ten-thousand-jin stone suspended over his heart by a rotten rope; Fei Changfang did not move. The priest said, "You can be taught." He then made him eat feces, which Fei Changfang found disgusting. The priest said, "You were close to attaining the Dao, but failed because of this." He gave him only a bamboo cane, saying, "Ride it wherever you wish, and it will take you there." Upon arrival, he could throw the cane into the Ge Bi pond. Fei Changfang did as told, and upon looking, found it had turned into a dragon. He thereby gained the ability to drive away a hundred demons.
His surname was Chunyu, given name Yi. He was the Granary Administrator of Qi and from Linzi. In his youth, he loved medical formulas and thoroughly studied medical principles. He received instruction from Yang Qing, Gongcheng of Yuanli in the same commandery. His medical skill became increasingly profound, allowing him to diagnose diseases and clearly discern life and death. When the King of Qi fell ill, he summoned Yi for diagnosis. Yi said, "Wind pathogen has invaded the bladder, causing difficulty in urination and defecation." Yi administered medicine; after one dose, urination immediately flowed freely; after a second dose, the illness was cured. He knew the King's condition by palpating the pulse: the Taiyin pulse at the mouth was moist, indicating wind pathogen; a pulse that was large and dry indicated abnormal Qi in the bladder; dryness indicates internal heat.
He possessed innate talent, thoroughly investigating the extremes of all things. He read widely and was skilled in medicine and pharmacology. He believed that when Shennong tasted hundreds of herbs, he encountered seventy types of poison per day. Wang Andao argued that *Huainanzi* contains many allegories; is this not credible?
He was from Guiyang and attained the Dao during the reign of Emperor Wen of Han. People called him Su Xiangong (Lord Su the Immortal). Su Xiangong lost his father early in life and was renowned in his hometown for benevolence and filial piety. His residence was located northeast of the commandery capital, more than one hundred li from the county seat. While eating with his mother, she said, "There is no meat." Su Xiangong put down his chopsticks, rose, took money, and left. In a moment, he returned with meat. His mother asked, "Where did you get this?" He replied, "From the market in the county." His mother said, "The round trip to the county is over two hundred li. You arrived in an instant; you are deceiving me." He said, "When I bought the meat, I saw my maternal uncle and agreed to meet tomorrow." The next day, his maternal uncle indeed arrived. One day, celestial guards descended upon his residence. Su Xiangong told his mother, "I have been enrolled in the register of immortals and must leave to fulfill my duties, thus failing in my duty of parental care." His mother asked, "How shall I survive?" He left two plates for her: if she needed food or drink, she should tap the small plate; if she needed money or silk, she should tap the large plate. Whatever she needed arrived immediately. He also told his mother, "Next year, a plague will sweep the land. For those suffering from the plague, give them one sheng of water from the well in the courtyard or one orange leaf. Drinking it will cure them instantly." This later proved true. People traveled from a thousand li away to seek water and leaves, and they were cured promptly. From *Biographies of Divine Transcendents* (*Liexian Zhuan*).
