Realgar (ground into powder) Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) (each five qian, ground into powder)
Mix the above ingredients, add three to five fen of Realgar powder, take two qian per dose, and administer with wine.
In cases of snake bites, immediately prick the wound with a needle to bleed it, apply external medicine containing Realgar, etc., leaving one hole in the center to allow the toxic qi to escape, while internally administering detoxifying medicines.
Tie both ends of the wound tightly with rope to prevent the toxic qi from attacking inward and spreading through the meridians.
Another prescription: For treating poisoning from all kinds of snake and insect bites, mix Wulingzhi (Trogopteri Dung) and Realgar in equal proportions, grind into powder, take two qian per dose, mix with wine and apply to the sore, leaving an opening; when dry, apply oil.
Another prescription: Grind Yuzanhua leaves (Hemerocallis esculenta leaves) to extract juice, mix with wine for oral administration, and apply the dregs to the wound.
Another prescription: Crush Si Gua Ye (Luffae Fructus Reticulatus leaves) and apply externally. Another method: Crush Ku Cao (likely referring to a specific bitter herb) and apply externally.
Another prescription: Use Ban Bian Lian (Herba Lysimachiae) rubbed with saliva until mashed, then apply externally. Another method: Crush Zi Hua Di Ding (Viola yedoensis) and apply externally.
Another prescription: Beimu (Fritillariae Bulbus) (ground into powder), take two qian mixed with wine orally, and apply externally mixed with oil; recovery occurs once fluid drains completely.
*Zhou Hou Fang* (Handbook of Prescriptions for Emergencies): Take juice extracted from Xiao Suan (Allium macrostemon) orally, and apply the dregs to the wound.
*Yi Jian Fang* (Simple and Easy Formula): Crush tender leaves of Cang Er Cao (Xanthii Herba), squeeze out the juice for oral administration, rinse mouth with a cup of wine, or mix wine into the juice for drinking, and apply the dregs to the wound. Another formula: Crush Bian Dou Ye (Dolichoris Semen leaves) and apply externally. Also, soak Zi Su Ye (Perillae Folium) in Xi You (Sesame Oil) and apply to the wound. Another method: Crush Jian Mian Cao and apply externally.
In cases of venomous snake bites where no medicine is available in an emergency, crush Lan Ye (Isatis Leaf) to obtain one bowl of juice, mix with one qian of Realgar, and dab onto the wound. Have the patient sip and swallow the juice slowly. This is highly effective. If Lan Ye is unavailable, Qing Dai (Indigo Naturalis) can be used as a substitute.
When people wade in streams or walk in mountains, or drink spring water, there may be toxins left by mating snakes. If accidentally ingested, it causes severe colic in the heart and abdomen and inability to eat. Physicians who treat this merely as cold-water stagnation in the spleen and stomach fail to recognize the poisoning. Using Xionghuang Jiedu Wan (Realgar Detoxification Pill) leads to recovery. In the past, a person suffered from this illness after drinking mountain spring water due to thirst. Several physicians failed to cure him. Only one physician administered detoxifying medicine, resulting in the expulsion of several living small red snakes, after which he recovered.
