The ears are the external manifestation of the Kidney (Shen). In children, when the Qi of the Kidney meridian is abundant, heat rushes upward to the ears, causing fluids to stagnate and accumulate, resulting in thick pus or essence-like discharge.
There are also cases where water enters the ear during bathing; the retained dampness transmits to the Qi and Blood, brewing into ear pus. If this persists without healing, it may lead to hearing impairment.
Longgu San (Dragon Bone Powder): Treats otorrhea (ear pus).
Calcined Alum (Qian), Dragon Bone (1.5 Qian), Lead Tetroxide (Huang Dan), Carmine (Yanzhi) (each 1 Qian), Musk (Xieshen) (a small amount, ground together into a fine powder).
First, use a cotton swab to wipe out the pus and fluid from the ear. Then, use a goose feather tube to insufflate approximately one "Yi" (a traditional unit of measure for powder) of the powder into the ear.
Shexiang San (Musk Powder): Treats the aforementioned condition.
Spider (one piece), Raw Carmine (Wufen), Musk (Yizi).
Grind into a fine powder and insufflate into the ear.
Ear Sore Formula
Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian), Cnidium Fruit (Shechuangzi) (each 1 Qian), Calomelas (Qingfen) (Yizi).
Grind into powder, apply topically to the sore or insufflate into the ear.
The head is the summit of all Yang meridians. Often, fetal heat or toxic heat attacks the head, causing persistent sores on the scalp. If the sores are scattered with white, flaky crusts that are dry and itchy, resembling dandruff, this is caused by accumulated heat and is named "Bai Tu" (White Baldness). Another type features thick crusts and yellow exudate; if the fluid flows and creates new sores, it is named "Fei Chuang" (Fat Sore). If not treated early, it will gradually spread over the entire head, becoming extensive and difficult to cure, leading to permanent baldness and hair loss. This is commonly known as "La Li" (Wax Pear) and requires prompt treatment.
Secret Effective Formula: Treats various cases of Bai Tu, which are often refractory.
Asphalt (Liang), Sophora Root Powder (Ban Liang), Almond Paste, Hundred Grass Soot (Baicaoshuang) (each 3 Qian), Sichuan Pepper Powder, Mercury (Shuiyin) (each 5 Qian).
Blend and grind with Biota Seed Oil (Baizi You) until it forms a paste, ensuring no visible mercury particles remain. First, wash with strong, hot tea decoction made from bitter tea. Shave off the hair and crusts, then apply the ointment immediately. Three applications result in a cure. Avoid triggering foods (Fa Wu).
Lianchuang San: Treats infants with widespread tinea capitis-like toxic sores on the head, as well as itching on the hands, feet, body, genitals, and scrotum, where scratching leads to weeping yellow fluid, dryness, and pain.
Cleaned Coptis Rhizome (Ban Liang), Cnidium Fruit (Er Qian Ban), Chinese Gall (Wubeizi) (Yi Qian Er Fen), Calomelas (Qingfen) (Yi Qian).
Grind into a fine powder. First, decoct Schizonepeta (Jingjie) and Scallion (Cong) in water, wash the area, and pat dry. Then, mix the powder with clear sesame oil for topical application.
Alternative method: Burn the bark of the Chinaberry tree root (Lian Gen Pi) to ash while retaining its properties, and mix with lard for application.
Crucian Carp Formula: Treats pediatric Bai Tu.
Take one crucian carp weighing three to four liang. Remove the intestines and fill the cavity with tangled human hair. Wrap in wet paper and burn until carbonized (preserving the nature). Grind into powder and add a small amount of Realgar (Xionghuang).
Mix with Sesame Oil (Mayou) for application. First, cleanse the area with Shepherd's Purse (Jiqi) water before applying the medicine.
