苦夫世人使药，岂知自有君臣，既辨君臣，宁分相制。只如 毛（今盐草也。）沾溺，立消斑肿
之毒；象胆挥粘，乃知药有情异。 鱼插树，立便干枯；用狗胆涂之，（以犬胆灌之，插鱼处立如故也。）
却当荣盛。无名（无名异形似玉，仰面又如石炭，味别。）止楚，截指而似去甲毛；圣石开盲，
明目而如云离日。当归止血破血，头尾效各不同。（头止血，尾破血。）蕤仁足睡不眠，生熟验之
立据。箅淡型卤，（常使饭甑中箅，能淡盐味。）如酒沾交。（今蜜枳缴枝，又云交加枝。）铁遇
神砂，如泥似粉；石经鹤粪，化作尘飞。 见橘花，如浆似髓。断弦折剑，遇鸾血而如初；（以鸾
血炼作胶，粘折处永不断也。）海竭江枯，投游波（燕子是也。）而立泛。令铅拒火，须仗修天；
（今呼为补天石。）如要形坚，岂忘紫背。（有紫背天葵，如常食菜，只是背紫面青，能坚铅形。）
留砒住鼎，全赖宗心。（别有宗心草，今呼石竹不是食者□心恐误。其草出 州，生处多虫兽。）
雌得芹花，（此草名为立起，其形如芍药，花色青，可长三尺，叶上黄斑色，味苦涩，堪用。煮
雌黄立住火。）立便成灰；炮遇赤须，（其草名赤须，今呼为虎须草是用煮 砂即住火验。）
木留金鼎。水中生火，非猾髓而莫能；（海中有兽名曰猾，以髓入在油中，其油沾水，水中生火，
不可救之，用酒喷之即灭，
勿放屋下收。）长齿生牙，赖雄鼠之骨末。（其齿若折年多不生者，取雄鼠脊骨作末，揩折处，齿立生如故。）
发眉堕落，涂半夏而立生；（眉发堕落者，以生半夏茎捣之取涎，涂发落处立生。）目辟眼KT ，有五花而自正。（五
加皮是也。其叶有雄雌。三叶为雄，五叶为雌须是五叶者作末酒浸饮之，其目KT 者正。）脚生肉 ， 系菪根；（脚

肉者，取莨菪根于 带于系之，感应永不痛。）囊皱泉多，夜煎竹木。（多小便者，夜煎萆 一件
服之，永不夜起也。益智、萆 故名缩泉丸。）体寒腹大，全赖鸬 ；（若患腹大如鼓，米饮调鸬
末服，立枯如故也。）血泛经过，饮调瓜子。（甜瓜子内仁捣作末，去油，饮调服之，立绝。）咳逆数数，酒服熟雄；（
天雄以酒泡过，一钱匕服，立定。）遍体疹风，冷调生侧。（附子傍生者曰侧子，作末冷酒调服立瘥。）
肠虚泻痢，须假草零；（捣五倍子作末，以热水调服之，立止。）久渴心烦，宜投竹沥。除 去块，
全仗硝 。（硝、 即硝石、 砂二味，于乳钵中研作粉，同 了，酒调服，神效。）益食加觞，须煎
芦朴。（不食者，并饮酒少者，煎逆水芦根并浓朴二味汤服。）强筋健骨，须是苁 ；（苁蓉并 鱼二味，
作末，以黄精汁丸服之，可力倍常十也。出《干宁记》中。）驻色延年，精蒸神锦。（出颜
色，服黄精自然汁拌细研神锦，于柳木甑中蒸七日了，
以水蜜丸服，颜色可如美女之容。）知疮所在，口点阴胶。（阴胶即是甑中气垢，少许于口中，则知脏腑所起，
直彻至住处知痛，足可医也。）产后肌浮，甘皮酒服。（产后肌浮，酒服甘皮立愈。）口疮舌坼，立愈黄苏。
（口疮舌坼，以根黄涂酥炙作末，含之瘥。）脑痛欲亡，鼻投硝末；（头痛者，以硝石末入鼻中，
立止神速。）心痛欲死，速觅延胡。（以延胡索作末，酒服之立愈。）如斯百种，是药之功。某忝
遇明时，谬看医理；虽寻圣法，难可穷微。略陈药饵之功能，岂溺仙人之要术。其用药炮、熬、煮
、炙，不能记年月哉！欲审元由，须看海集。
可悲啊，世人使用药物，哪里知道药物自有君臣（主药与辅药）之分；既然分辨了君臣，难道不区分相制（药物间的制约关系）吗？

Alas, people using medicines, how could they know that there are naturally sovereign and ministerial (primary and auxiliary) roles; having distinguished the sovereign and ministerial, how could they not differentiate mutual restraint (the restraining relationship between herbs)?
Just as Mao (now known as Yanscao, Salt Grass), when touched by urine, immediately eliminates the toxicity of macules and swelling; Elephant Gallbladder, when waved and adhered, reveals that medicines possess distinct emotional affinities. A fish inserted into a tree instantly withers; applying Dog Gallbladder to it (pouring canine bile into the insertion site restores it immediately), yet it appears flourishing. Wuming (a herb resembling jade in irregular shape, stone-like on its upper surface, with a unique taste) stops pain, and after amputating a finger, it seems to remove the nail-like sensation; Shengshi (Holy Stone) opens blindness and brightens eyes, like clouds dispersing to reveal the sun. Danggui (Angelica sinensis) both stops bleeding and breaks blood stasis, with different effects for its head and tail. (The head stops bleeding, the tail breaks blood stasis). Ruiren (Bai Guo Ren / Prunus armeniaca seed) induces sleep in those who wish to sleep and cures insomnia in those who cannot, with raw and cooked forms providing immediate verification. Bi Dan Xing Lu (the grate inside a steamer used for rice, which can dilute saltiness), is like Jiu Zhan Jiao (now known as Mi Zhi Jiao Zhi or Honey-processed Zhi Jiao Branch, also called Jiao Jia Zhi). Iron encountering Shen Sha (Cinnabar) becomes soft as mud and fine as powder; stones treated with Crane Droppings turn to flying dust. Seeing Orange Flower is like consuming paste and marrow. Broken strings and swords, upon encountering Luan Blood (blood from a mythical bird), return to their original state; (Luan blood refined into glue permanently bonds broken parts without re-breaking); when seas dry and rivers wither, throwing in You Bo (Swallows) causes waves to rise immediately. To make Lead resist fire, one must rely on Xiu Tian (now called Bu Tian Shi, Sky-Mending Stone). If one desires firmness of form, how could one forget Zi Bei (Zi Bei Tian Kui, a vegetable with purple back and green front, capable of hardening lead forms)? To keep Arsenic in the cauldron, one entirely relies on Zong Xin (Zong Xin Cao, now called Shi Zhu, Stone Bamboo, not to be confused with edible □ Xin which may cause error. This herb grows in certain prefectures where insects and beasts are abundant). When Ci Huang (Realgar) meets Qin Hua (Celery Flower) (this herb is named Li Qi, shaped like Peony, with blue flowers reaching three feet tall, leaves with yellow spots, bitter and astringent taste, usable. When boiling Realgar, adding this herb immediately stops its fiery nature), it instantly turns to ash; Pao encounters Chi Xu (Red Mustache, now called Hu Xu Cao, Tiger Mustache Grass, used to boil Sandstone to stop fire, verified), keeping Wood in the Golden Cauldron. Fire generating in water cannot be achieved without Hua Sui (Sui Beast Marrow); (There is a beast in the sea named Hual, whose marrow put into oil creates an oil that ignites on water, impossible to extinguish, but quenched by spraying wine, do not collect under eaves). Growing teeth and gums relies on the powder of Male Rat Bone. (If teeth break and do not grow back for many years, take Male Rat spine bone powder, rub it on the broken area, and teeth will regenerate immediately). Falling hair and eyebrows, applying Ban Xia (Pinellia ternata) makes them grow immediately; (For falling hair and eyebrows, crush fresh Pinellia stems to extract juice, apply to bald areas for immediate growth). Strabismus (eyes deviating), corrected naturally by Wu Hua (Wu Jia Pi, Five-Acanthopanax Bark). (Wu Jia has male and female types. Three leaves are male, five are female; only five-leaf varieties should be powdered and taken with wine to correct strabismus). Flesh growth on feet is tied to Dang Gen (Liang Dang Gen root); (For flesh growths on feet, hang Liang Dang root on a belt around the waist; through resonance, pain never returns). Constricted scrotum and frequent urination (Shen Quan Duo), boiled bamboo and wood at night. (For frequent urination, boil Bi Xie alone at night and take it, preventing nocturia forever. Yi Zhi and Bi Xie constitute Suo Quan Wan). Cold body and distended abdomen rely entirely on Lu E (Cormorant); (For abdominal distension like a drum, mix Cormorant powder with rice water and take it, causing immediate shrinking). Overflowing blood during menstruation, drink mixed with Melon Seeds. (Sweet Melon Seed kernels pounded to powder, oil removed, taken with water or wine, stops immediately). Frequent coughing and counterflow qi, taken with wine and cooked Tian Xiong (Heavenly雄性). (Tian Xiong soaked in wine, one qian bi dose settles it immediately). Generalized wind rash, cold-mixed Sheng Ce Zi (Side Child, lateral shoots of Aconite). (Ce Zi powdered and taken with cold wine cures immediately). (Yin Jiao is the condensation scale from the steamer; placing a small amount in the mouth reveals the origin of organ pathology, extending to the painful site, sufficient for diagnosis). Postpartum edema, Gan Pi taken with wine. (Postpartum skin floating/edema, Gan Pi taken with wine heals immediately). Mouth ulcers and cracked tongue, Huang Su (Yellow Butter/Coptis) cures instantly. (Mouth ulcers and cracked tongue: coat Huang Lian with butter, roast, powder, hold in mouth to heal). Brain pain nearing death, Nasal administration of Xiao Mo (Niter Powder). (Headache: insert Niter powder into nose, stops quickly). Heart pain nearing death, quickly seek Yan Hu (Yan Hu Suo). (Yan Hu Suo powdered, taken with wine heals immediately). Such are a hundred cases, the merit of medicines. I, unworthy, have encountered a enlightened era, mistakenly studied medical principles; though seeking sage methods, difficult to exhaust the subtleties. Briefly stating the functions of drugs, how could one indulge in immortal techniques? Regarding the processing of drugs—pao, ao, zhu, zhi—cannot record the years! To examine the original cause, one must look at *Hai Ji*.
