This condition occurs in infants aged three to five months and those within one month after birth. Upon onset, the entire mouth is covered with a white membrane, saliva increases excessively and cannot be retained, there are alternating chills and fever, the complexion resembles yellow paper, and red-yellow ulcerative spots appear all over the body. If the skin sloughs off, it is incurable. This is caused by fetal toxin (toxicity inherited from the mother during pregnancy), resulting from the mother's failure to maintain strict discipline during pregnancy. Alternatively, if the infant consumes sour and salty foods before being one hundred days old, or due to parental excessive sexual activity and irregular emotions such as anger and joy, the child may suffer from this disease. For robust patients, detoxification and purging of stomach fire are appropriate. Internally, Bingpeng San (Ice and Borax Powder) should be blown into the affected area, and the oral cavity should be washed with Qingbu (a type of blue cloth) dipped in water decocted from Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis).
This condition also occurs in infants within one hundred days and children aged two to three years. At onset, the mouth is covered with white or yellow membranes, saliva is abundant, the face is yellow, and white spots appear on the gums. Acupuncture needles should be used to puncture and release yellow fluid; once the yellow fluid is discharged, the toxin dissipates. Treatment involves formulas such as Ganjie Tang (Licorice and Platycodon Decoction), along with the application of Bingpeng San (Ice and Borax Powder) blown into the mouth. If white or yellow spots suddenly appear under the tip of the tongue corresponding to the midline, and the patient is physically robust, the condition is easy to treat. However, if the disease persists with black-red discoloration, skin sloughing, unremitting tidal fever, noisy breathing, and hoarseness, it is incurable.
Regarding the aforementioned forty-six conditions, careful differentiation is required. Clear when clearing is indicated, tonify when tonification is indicated, lift when lifting is indicated, purge when purging is indicated. Eliminate wind if wind is present, eliminate tidal fever if tidal fever is present, remove excess saliva if present, resolve phlegm if present, remove membranes if present, and open obstructions if present. In cases where there are white/yellow membranes and red ulcerative spots, but the breath is not coarse, voice is not hoarse, speech is clear, articulation is normal, throat is not dry, abdomen is not painful, jaw is not locked, speech is not delirious, eyes are not red, spirit is not agitated, eyes do not stare fixedly, demeanor is not gloomy, urination and defecation are smooth, bad breath is present without blood, chest is not tight, complexion is not dark/blackish, and bleeding occurs upon acupuncture, although the patient appears critical, the toxin has not yet attacked the Zang organs, and medication can still resolve the issue. For these severe conditions, if the patient exhibits even one or two of the aforementioned favorable signs, do not treat recklessly. If the family pleads repeatedly and emotional pressure is overwhelming, one must explicitly state that this is an incurable condition. Proceeding with medication at their request means accepting no credit nor blame for the outcome, thereby avoiding resentment.
