Take seven live crucian carp and raise them in the infant's urine. Wait until they turn red and are thoroughly cooked by simmering, then feed to the child.
This illustrates that the disease progresses rapidly and cannot be delayed. It mostly belongs to cases where residual toxins from smallpox/measles (痘疹) invade the body. There are also cases caused by extreme heat from miscellaneous diseases. The symptoms manifest as swollen and ulcerated gums, which subsequently turn black, rot, and emit a foul odor. There are five types of untreatable conditions: bad breath with foul odor is untreatable; black rotting flesh that does not shed is untreatable; teeth falling out without bleeding is untreatable; cheek perforation and lip rupture is untreatable; and ineffectiveness of medication is untreatable.
At the initial stage: Renzhongbai (Urine Deposit, preferably from urinals, 2 liang), Ercha (Child's Tears/Terminalia chebula fruit extract, 1 liang), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis) (each ground into powder, 6 qian), Bingpian (Borneol, 5 fen). Grind all ingredients into an extremely fine powder. First, rinse the mouth clean with warm water, then blow the powder onto the affected area (gan sores). Use six or seven times daily. After applying the powder, if saliva flows out externally, it is a auspicious sign; if the toxin recedes internally, it is an ominous sign.
Internal medicine formula: Lushen (Aloe), Yinchaihu (Stellariae Radix), Hu Huanglian (Coptidis Chinensis Rhizoma - specifically *Coptis chinensis* var. *teeta*), Chuan Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus), Yuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), Lingyangjiao (Saiga Tataricae Cornu) (each 5 fen), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) (each 3 fen). Add two zhong of water and ten slices of Danzhuyez (Lophatheri Herba). Decoct until reduced to six fen. Take after meals. This formula is suitable even for cases involving cheek perforation and lip rupture.
Alternative external application: Renzhongbai (Urine Deposit), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) (honey-fried until charred). Grind into powder in equal parts. Add a small amount of Bingpian (Borneol). Wipe the area clean with a blue cloth and sprinkle the powder on it.
Another formula: Xionghuang (Realgar, 3 qian), Shexiang (Moschus, 5 fen), Danning (Arisaematis Cum Bile, 2 qian), Quanxie (Scorpio, large size, stir-fried and legs removed), Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus) (each 1 qian, stir-fried), Badou (Crotonis Fructus, 5 fen, oil removed using paper). Weigh cleanly and grind into powder. Bind with Shenqu paste (Medicated Leaven Paste) to make pills the size of mustard seeds. Coat with Zhusha (Cinnabar, sublimed, 2 qian) as the outer layer. Take 1 qian per dose, washed down with plain boiled water. (This formula was obtained by Monk Zhirong of Hangzhou and has saved tens of millions of people.)
For inability to suckle milk: Miyiseng (Lead Monoxide) powder, mixed with vinegar and applied to the sole of the foot. Wash off immediately upon recovery.
If sores appear on the upper thighs near the lower abdomen, with skin peeling open and gradually spreading to the lower abdomen, the condition is incurable. This is named "Taibo" (Fetal Peeling). Apply Pig Gallbladder juice mixed with Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) (fried and ground) to the affected area. Alternatively, add Fulonggan (Dragon's House Earth/Calcined Clay) powder in equal proportions, moisten the affected area with saliva, and sprinkle the powder.
