Treating difficult labor caused by pregnancy in women of wealth who consume rich and sweet foods excessively, experience emotional instability, have irregular diet, lie down immediately after full meals, leading to a thick placenta and firm attachment, causing difficulty in movement and difficult delivery. Difficult labor often occurs among those who are depressed and idle, in wealthy families raised in luxury; it is rarely seen among the poor and hardworking. Ancient medical texts only mention Shoutai Yin (Thin-Fetus Decoction), formulated by Princess Huyang. This is not the ultimate truth. Why? Because I have seen those using this formula still experiencing difficult labor. There was a pregnant woman suffering from difficult labor who terminated subsequent pregnancies out of fear. I pitied her greatly. Observing her obese physique but diligence in needlework, I pondered for ten days and suddenly realized: This is exactly opposite to Princess Huyang's theory. Those well-nourished must have excess Qi; depleting their Qi brings balance, hence easy delivery. Now, obesity indicates Qi deficiency, and prolonged sitting indicates stagnant Qi transport, inevitably weakening Qi further. The fetus remains in the womb because the mother's Qi cannot move it naturally. One should tonify the mother's Qi, so the fetus becomes robust and delivery easy.
