Translation:
It is discussed that the disease of Shanghan (Cold Damage) is mostly resolved through methods such as inducing sweating, vomiting, or purging. Although the illness has subsided, the Zang-Fu organs are all injured, and Ying Qi (Nutritive Qi) and Wei Qi (Defensive Qi) are both depleted. The essence from food and grain has not yet recovered, and body fluids are insufficient to provide adequate nourishment; therefore, the physical form becomes weak and emaciated. This corresponds to what the *Neijing* (Inner Canon) states: "One must nourish and harmonize, waiting for recovery to come naturally." If a person was originally constitutionally weak, and after a severe illness remains emaciated and fails to recover, they are prone to developing various diseases related to exhaustion and injury. In such cases, one should first use the flavors and properties of food to nourish and harmonize the body, and subsequently treat with medicinal herbs. Thus, it is said that when the flavors and properties of food are harmonized and consumed, they can replenish essence and boost Qi.
