Discourse states: The *Neijing* (Classic of Internal Medicine) mentions that when Shen (Spirit) is in excess, laughter will not cease. This is because the Heart houses the Shen; its manifestation in sound is laughter, and its manifestation in emotion is joy. When Heart Qi is currently full and excess, the Shen is in excess; when the Shen is in excess, Yang Qi overflows outward. Therefore, the syndrome of frequent laughter arises.
