Discourse states: The Chong Qi (Pulsating Qi) of the human body surrounds the Stomach internally and connects upwards to the fontanelle apex. When a child's Stomach Qi is harmonious and smooth, the brain marrow becomes full and mature, and the fontanelle gradually closes. If heat in the Stomach steams and薰 (scorches) the Zang-Fu organs, it leads to thirst and excessive drinking, which subsequently causes diarrhea, resulting in deficiency of Qi and Blood in the Zang-Fu organs. Because Qi and Blood cannot ascend to nourish the marrow and brain, the fontanelle sinks.
For treating children with stagnation and heat in the Zang-Fu organs, where Qi and Blood fail to provide nourishment, leading to a sunken fontanelle: Sheng Gan Di Huang San (Raw Dried Rehmannia Powder).
Sheng Gan Di Huang (Raw Dried Rehmanniae Radix, baked, two liang) Wu Ji Gu (Black Chicken Bone, one liang, fried in butter until yellow).
The above two ingredients are finely pounded and sifted through a fine sieve to make a powder. Take half a qian bi (a small measuring spoon size) mixed with rice gruel or water for drinking, at any time.
For treating children with deficiency of Stomach Qi, where Qi and Blood fail to fill the fontanelle, leading to a sunken fontanelle: Dang Gui Tang (Angelica Decoction).
Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, sliced and baked) Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng) Huang Qi (Radix Astragali, crushed, each one liang) He Li Le (Fructus Chebulae, baked and pitted, half a liang) Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, roasted and crushed, one fen).
The above six ingredients are coarsely pounded and sifted. For each dose, take one qian bi, add seven parts water, decoct until three parts remain, remove the dregs, and divide into two warm doses. Take at any time.
For treating children with deficiency of Qi and Blood, where the fontanelle is sunken and uneven: Gan Di Huang Wan (Rehmannia Pill).
Shu Gan Di Huang (Prepared Dried Rehmanniae Radix, baked) Shao Yao (Radix Paeoniae Alba) Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, sliced and baked) Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, each half a liang) Gui Zhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi, bark removed, one fen).
The above five ingredients are pounded and sifted into a fine powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of millet seeds. Take seven pills per dose, administered with rice gruel, before nursing or eating. Adjust the dosage according to the child's age and size.
For treating a sunken fontanelle in children:
Gou Tou Gu (Dog Skull Bone).
One ingredient: Roast until yellow, pound and sift into powder. Mix with egg white and apply topically.
Another prescription:
Tian Ling Gai (Human Vertex Bone).
One ingredient: Roast until yellow, pound and sift into powder. Mix with raw oil and apply topically.
For treating a sunken fontanelle in children:
Zhu Ya Che Gu Sui (Porcine Mandibular Marrow).
One ingredient: Decoct until it becomes a paste, and apply to the fontanelle.
Discourse states: Upon birth, infants receive Yin and Yang Qi. Water represents Yin, Fire represents Yang. Only when Water and Fire interact do Yin and Yang transform. From the embryo, blood vessels form; from blood vessels, the physical body develops, until the Zang-Fu organs are complete and Spirit is whole. All this relies on the Qi of Yin, Yang, Water, and Fire. Therefore, every thirty-two days there is a change, and every sixty-four days there is a more significant change (manifesting as slight sweating). This is a normal physiological variation, not something to be rigidly judged by specific days.
For treating children during Bian Zheng (growth and development phase) complicated by seasonal warm pathogens, or contracting seasonal warm pathogens outside the Bian Zheng period: Hei San (Black Powder).
Ma Huang (Herba Ephedrae, roots and joints removed, blanched in boiling water, half a liang) Da Huang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, crushed and stir-fried, one fen) Xing Ren (Semen Pruni Armeniacae, soaked in water, skin and tips removed, double-kernel wheat bran fried until slightly yellow, half a liang).
The above three ingredients: First, pound the first two into powder. Separately grind the Almond Seeds into a paste-like consistency. Mix with the powder and pound again until uniform. Store in a sealed container for one month. Infants take one pill-sized amount (size of a mung bean), mixed with breast milk. Hold the infant to induce sweating. After sweating, dust with warm powder. Avoid exposure to wind. For infants under one hundred days, take an amount the size of a date pit.
For treating fever that does not resolve during Bian Zheng in children: Zi Shuang Wan (Purple Frost Pill).
Dai Zhe Shi (Hematitum, pounded to powder) Chi Shi Zhi (Halloysitum Rubrum, pounded to powder, each one liang) Ba Dou (Semen Crotonis, thirty seeds, heart and skin removed, oil pressed out completely) Xing Ren (Semen Pruni Armeniacae, fifty seeds... [text fragment]).
The above four ingredients: First, separately pound Ba Dou and Xing Ren into a paste. Mix with the powders of Dai Zhe Shi. Pound two thousand times until well combined. Add a little honey and pound again. Must be stored in a sealed container... [text fragment] ...rash...
For treating newborns with abundant and solid blood vessels, presenting with alternating cold and heat, elevated temperature, limb convulsions, high fever with severe vomiting, inability to digest food if solids have been introduced, persistent high fever, unresolved Bian Zheng fever, invasion by external pathogenic Qi, and various types of epilepsy and convulsions: Long Dan Tang (Gentian Decoction).

[text fragment]).
The above twelve ingredients are coarsely pounded and sifted. For children aged one to two years, take one qian bi per dose, decoct with five parts water until three parts remain, remove dregs, and take warm. For children aged three to four years, take one and a half qian bi per dose, decoct with one small cup of water until five parts remain, remove dregs, and take warm three to four times overnight. Adjust dosage according to the child's size.
For treating prolonged Bian Zheng with lingering heat, irritability, incessant crying, bone-steaming fever, and sallow complexion: Chai Hu Tang (Bupleurum Decoction).
Chai Hu (Radix Bupleuri, buds removed) Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, roasted and crushed) Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng) Xuan Shen (Radix Scrophulariae, each one liang) Long Dan Cao (Radix Gentianae, half a liang) Mai Men Dong (Radix Ophiopogonis, core removed, baked, one liang... [text fragment]).
