One point, Shangwan (CV13, Upper Elixir), is indicated for Huoluan (Cholera-like syndrome). The *Jia Yi Jing* states: It is located 1.5 cun below Jueque (CV14, Great Void), and 3 cun below the lower end of the xiphoid process. It is an intersection point of the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel), Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian, and Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian. Moxibustion consists of five moxa cones (Zhuang), with the cone size resembling half a date pit.
For Huoluan where heart pain precedes or vomiting occurs first, moxibustion is applied to Jueque (CV14) seven times. This point is located 1 cun below the epigastrium; if ineffective, continue moxibustion according to the aforementioned number.
For Huoluan where abdominal pain precedes, moxibustion is applied to Taicang (CV11, Granary) fourteen times (two sets of seven). This point is located 4 cun below the epigastrium, one Fu width above the umbilicus; if symptoms persist, continue moxibustion according to the aforementioned number.
For Huoluan where diarrhea occurs first, moxibustion is applied to Gumen (ST24, Grain Gate) fourteen times (two sets of seven). This point is located 2 cun lateral to the umbilicus, on the left side for males and the right side for females. It is also known as the Front-Mu point of the Large Intestine; if not cured, continue moxibustion according to the aforementioned number.
For Huoluan with uncontrollable vomiting and diarrhea, accompanied by rapid and frequent pulses in both Yin and Yang meridians of the hands, moxibustion is applied to the area 3 cun below the xiphoid process, and to the area 3 cun below the umbilicus, each receiving sixty to seventy moxa cones.
For Huoluan with diarrhea but no vomiting, moxibustion is applied to Dadu (SP2, Great Market) seven times. This point is located at the medial border of the white flesh, distal to the metatarsophalangeal joint of the great toe.
For Huoluan with diarrhea, severe restlessness, and a sensation of impending death, moxibustion is applied to Cigong (CV12, Benevolent Palace? Note: Text says Cigong, likely referring to a specific local point or variant, often associated with Qihai/CV6 area or specific emergency points, here translated literally as Cigong) fourteen times (two sets of seven). This point is located 2.5 cun lateral to the midline on both sides of the Henggu (Transverse Bone); the Henggu refers to the pubic symphysis bone below the umbilicus.
For Huoluan with dry heaving, moxibustion is applied to Jianshi (PC5, Intercourse Sea) seven times on each side. This point is located 3 cun proximal to the wrist crease, between the two tendons/joints; if not cured, continue moxibustion according to the aforementioned number.
For Huoluan with vomiting, moxibustion is applied to the area along the line connecting the two nipples, near the lateral edge of the white flesh adjacent to the abdomen, seven times on each side; this can be increased to fourteen times (two sets of seven).
If Huoluan vomiting stops but diarrhea continues, moxibustion is applied to the center of the umbilicus, approximately one Fu width, seven times; alternatively, it is stated to be 1 cun below the umbilicus, fourteen times (two sets of seven).
For Huoluan with cold extremities, moxibustion is applied to Sanyinjiao (SP6, Three Yin Intersection) seven times on each side; if symptoms do not subside, increase the number of moxa cones. This point is located 3 cun above the tip of the medial malleolus.
If Huoluan presents with spasms/twitching, moxibustion is applied to the midpoint of the first transverse crease of the wrist, seven times. This location is named Xin Zhu (Heart Master), corresponding to the direction of the middle finger.
For Huoluan with restlessness, moxibustion is applied to 3 cun below the epigastrium, seven times; additionally, salt is placed in the umbilicus, and moxibustion is performed on top of the salt for fourteen times (two sets of seven).
For Huoluan with urgent and severe pain encircling the umbilicus, moxibustion is applied to 3 cun below the umbilicus, twenty-one times (three sets of seven). This point is named Guanyuan (CV4, Gate of Origin).
For Huoluan patients in critical condition nearing death, use an object to measure across the patient's Renzhong (GV26, Human Center) and bend it. Measure from Xindao/Jiwei (CV15, Heart Well) downwards to determine the position for moxibustion. First, moxibustion is applied to the central point. Then, horizontal moxibustion is applied to the left and right sides. Additionally, moxibustion is applied to the upper spine. Use an object to circle the body so it aligns with the epigastrium, and apply moxibustion 1 cun to the left and right of the spine, seven times on each side.
For Huoluan patients in critical distress who do not respond to various treatments, have the patient lie prone holding their abdomen, with arms extended and facing each other. Use a rope to measure the distance between the tips of the two elbows. Based on this length, locate the fleshy area beside the large vertebral bone in the back, 1 cun away from the spine on each side, and apply moxibustion there for one hundred moxa cones. If not healed, Jiweizhui (Moxibustion on Elbow Vertebrae) can be added. After moxibustion, the patient should rise immediately.
