It is stated that the failure of teeth to grow is caused by various diseases such as wind-related caries (wind-gum disease) and dental caries, leading to tooth loss, after which they fail to regrow over time. The Kidney governs bones; teeth are the culmination of bones and are nourished by marrow. When a person's Qi and Blood are strong and marrow is solid, even if teeth fall out, they will certainly regrow. However, if Qi and Blood are weak and marrow is deficient, teeth cannot regenerate. The *Neijing* states that at age eight, men experience an abundance of Kidney Qi, resulting in the replacement of teeth and growth of hair; by age sixty-four (eight times eight), teeth and hair fall out. This refers to the aforementioned phenomenon. The treatment method should focus on filling the marrow and nourishing Kidney Qi, so that teeth may regrow.
