Discourse states: Gan disease (wasting-accumulation syndrome) has five types, which may transform into worm infestation over time. The first is called Bai Gan (White Gan), causing dry skin lacking moisture and luster; the second is Chi Gan (Red Gan), causing brittle and withered hair; the third is Nao Gan (Pinworm Gan), causing stiffness and heaviness in the waist and spine; the fourth is Gan (a specific type of Gan disease, character missing in original text), causing spasms and urgency in the lower body, and back stiffness preventing flexion and extension; the fifth is Hei Gan (Black Gan), which is fatal to patients, damaging all five Zang organs, or causing passage of stagnant blood. This is likely due to weakness of the intestines and stomach, excessive consumption of sweet flavors, leading to sluggish Spleen Qi, decline of Grain Qi, deficiency and damage of Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi), and movement of various worms in the intestines due to deficiency. When worms erode the upper part, there is vexing pain in the hands and feet, mental restlessness (Ao Nu), silence with loss of appetite, weakness in the waist and spine, food tasting tasteless, absent-mindedness, and inverted dreams at night. Sores appear in the throat and pharynx, gums become dark, damaged, and rotten, with pus and blood discharge. Reversal of Stomach Qi leads to vomiting and hiccups; downward erosion of the intestines and stomach causes dysentery with pus and blood, or passage of black stagnant blood. If not cured for a long time, the anus becomes ulcerated and open, gradually becoming critical.
Formula for Yuan Zi Fan San to treat chronic Gan dysentery that does not heal:
Yuan Zi Fan (calcined and ground) 2 liang, Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma, remove stamens) 2 liang, Bai Fan (Alumen, calcined and ground), Long Gu (Fossilia Os Mastodi et Ossis Parietalis, ground), Yun Mu Fen (Muscovite Powder, ground) each 1.5 liang, Gui Zhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi, remove rough bark), She Xiang (Moschus).
The above eight ingredients are crushed and ground into powder. Take 3 qian bi (approx. 3 grams) mixed with fresh ginger juice on an empty stomach. Take twice daily.
Formula for treating chronic Gan dysentery, emaciation, and sallow complexion:
Liu Huang (Sulfur, ground), Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma, remove stamens), Ai Ye (Artemisiae Argyi Folium), Mi (Honey) 1 he.
The above four ingredients are boiled in 2 sheng of water. First boil Huang Lian and Ai Ye to obtain half a sheng, then add Liu Huang powder, boil for three to five boils, strain to remove dregs, add honey, and boil for three to five more boils. Divide into three doses.
Formula for treating Gan dysentery that does not heal for a long time, with extreme emaciation approaching death:
Xin Chu Yang Fen (Freshly excreted sheep feces) 1 sheng.
The above single ingredient is soaked in 1 sheng of water overnight. In the morning, squeeze out the juice and take it in one dose. At noon, eat only cooked rice. For severe cases, it will heal within no more than three doses.
Wu Pi Tang (Five Barks Decoction) for treating various diseases where chronic dysentery transforms into Gan dampness:
Huai Pi (Cortex Sophorae Flavescentis), Tao Pi (Cortex Persicae), Chu Gen Bai Pi (Cortex Ailanthi Alti Radicis), Liu Pi (Cortex Salicis), Zao Pi (Cortex Ziziphi Jujubae) (each measured by the patient's hand holding a fistful).

The above five ingredients are boiled in 5 sheng of water until reduced to 2.5 sheng. Strain, add Bear Gallbladder (Xiong Dan) the size of a date pit, stir well, take 2 sheng to irrigate the lower part (anus/rectum), and take the remainder in three oral doses.
Irrigation Formula for treating chronic dysentery forming Gan disease:
Chu Gen Bai Pi (Cortex Ailanthi Radicis Albae) (one handful, crushed and squeezed to obtain 3 he of juice; avoid exposure to wind and sun when extracting), Da Ma You (Cannabis Sativa Oil) (boiled until like axle grease), Cu Gan Dian (Acidic Rice Wash Sediment) each 2 he, Jiao (Zanthoxyli Fructus) 4 liang.
The above five ingredients are boiled in 5 sheng of water. First boil Jiao and Chi Dou (Fermented Soybean) to extract 2 sheng of juice. Mix this juice with the three ingredients: Chu juice, Hemp oil, and Acidic rice wash sediment. Divide into two portions. Use one portion to irrigate the lower part. After one day, use the remaining portion to irrigate again. The medicine should be used warm. Diet should consist only of cooked rice, white parts of green onions, and well-cooked turnips and mustard greens. After fifty to sixty days, deer meat can be used as a base for cooking rice.
Formula for men, women, and children suffering from chronic dysentery forming Gan disease, unresponsive to hundreds of treatments:
Ding Xiang (Caryophylli Flos), She Xiang (Moschus, ground), Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma, remove stamens) each 1 fen.

Formula for stopping persistent Gan dysentery:
Ku Shen (Radix Sophorae Flavescentis), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, chopped), Xiong Huang (Realgar) each 2 liang.
The above three ingredients are pounded and sifted into fine powder. First, boil 5 cun of scallion whites, 1 he of fermented soybeans, and 30 grains of Shu Jiao (Sichuan Pepper) in 5 sheng of water until reduced to 3 sheng. Add three pinches of the medicine powder to the liquid. When the temperature is suitable, drink a little fermented bean soup first, eat a mouthful of rice, then lie on your side. Slowly irrigate the lower part. It is best if the contents are retained for a long time; if urgent evacuation occurs, do so on clean ground. There should appear Gan dampness worms resembling the black head of a white horse's tail; this indicates efficacy. If the case is severe with flaccid anus difficult to heal, take a peach branch wrapped in cotton, dip it in the aforementioned medicinal liquid, adjust to appropriate temperature, and cauterize. Cauterize near the spine thirty times to achieve healing.
Shi Liu Wan (Pomegranate Pill) for treating chronic dysentery forming Gan disease, passing white matter, where food fails to nourish muscles and flesh:
