It is stated that the Five Zang organs and Six Fu organs all possess Jing (Essence). When the Zang and Fu organs are harmonious, Jing can be transported and excreted normally; if the Zang and Fu organs decline, the physical form becomes extremely depleted, causing shortness of breath and labored respiration. Internal deficiency of the Five Zang organs leads to scorched teeth and falling hair, sadness and forgetfulness, blurred vision, deafness, unsteady gait, and heavy body. These are all signs of extreme Jing depletion. However, extreme Jing depletion can be either extreme deficiency or extreme excess. Generally, Yang pathogens harm the Five Zang organs, while Yin pathogens harm the Six Fu organs. In cases of Yang excess, treatment should guide from the Yin meridians to the Yang meridians; in cases of Yin deficiency, treatment should guide from the Yang meridians to the Yin meridians. Yang diseases primarily manifest in the upper part; upper manifestations indicate excess heat, which is suitable for purging internal heat. Yin diseases primarily manifest in the lower part; lower manifestations indicate deficiency cold, resulting in heavy body, deafness, and unsteady gait. If pathogens enter the Zang organs, coughing occurs, leading to excessive phlegm and saliva, facial swelling, and rebellious Qi. This indicates pathogens rebelling in the Six Fu organs and flooding into the Five Zang organs with deficiency and jue (collapse), causing extreme Jing depletion. The treatment principle is: for those with insufficient physical form, warm them with Qi-tonifying methods; for those with insufficient Jing, tonify them with flavor-rich substances. Treatment should begin when the condition is mild. If it progresses to the point where the Qi of the Five Yin organs is completely exhausted, the eye tendons will turn, and the essence of the eyes will be depleted. This is called "Zhi" (Will) dying first, and it is incurable.
