It is stated in the discussion: The *Neijing* (Inner Canon) records that there is a disease characterized by a sweet taste in the mouth, which is caused by the overflow of the five qi, and is named Pi Dan (Spleen Prolapse/Heat). Food enters the Yin (internal organs), and generates Qi in the Yang (exterior/functional aspects). Excessive consumption of rich and sweet foods leads to internal heat and abdominal fullness, thereby causing an excess of Yang Qi. Therefore, pure Yang heat excess constitutes the Dan condition; its manifestation is a sweet taste in the mouth. If left untreated for a long time, it transforms into Xiao Ke (Wasting-Thirst Syndrome), due to the upward overflow of hot qi.
