Discourse states: Toufengxuan (a syndrome characterized by dizziness and vertigo) occurs due to deficiency and timidity of the body's Qi, and insufficient congenital endowment. Yang Qi fails to ascend to the brain, allowing Wind pathogens to easily invade. The Wind interacts with Qi, causing dizziness accompanied by a spinning sensation. Additionally, phlegm-fluids may accumulate in the upper chest and diaphragm. If this is compounded by exposure to severe Cold, Yin Qi rebels upward. Wind and Phlegm bind together and rush upward to the head, also causing Toufengxuan.
