Each herb is burned to ash while preserving its medicinal properties (Shao Hui Cun Xing), ground into an extremely fine powder, wrapped in paper, covered with a bowl, and placed on the ground overnight to eliminate fire toxicity. When used, first crush fresh lotus root to extract juice, or [use radish juice].
Ten Grey Powder consists of Da Ji, Xiao Ji, Da Huang, Zhi Zi, Mao Gen, Qian Cao Gen, Ce Bai Ye, He Ye, Zong Lu Pi, and Mu Dan Pi.
Chen Xiuyuan's commentary: The previous prescription notes "burn to ash while preserving its medicinal properties." Today, pharmacies only know how to burn it to ash, turning it black, without understanding the meaning of "preserving its medicinal properties." Consequently, cases where it was ineffective are numerous. Investigating the cause, it is likely due to improper preparation methods, and also because light-weight herbs cannot bear this heavy responsibility; treatment must be discussed at a deeper level. If the pulse is surging and the face is red, caused by drunkenness and anger, it is a syndrome of fire carrying blood upward. I have formulated Xihong Wan (Red-Conserving Pill), taken three to four times day and night. It must be administered by steeping in Mafei Tang (boiling water), not by decoction, which is my advice. If the patient usually maintains their health well, the pulse is deep and fine, the face is pale red or whitish, and there is a sensation of cold upon bleeding, it is a syndrome of Yang deficiency causing Yin to escape. I have formulated Xihong San (Red-Conserving Powder) with fresh Zhu Ru (Bambusa Textilis Caulis internodium), taken three doses day and night. The combination of these medicines is scattered throughout my various published works; due to space constraints here, they cannot be fully listed.
When the five zang organs are ruptured and damaged, and blood spurts out in amounts of sheng or dou, use this to stop the bleeding.
Huarui Shi (Pyritum) (calcined over fire, preserving its medicinal properties, ground into powder, quantity as needed).
Take one cup of Tongbian (Child Urine), warm it thoroughly, and mix with three qian of the powder for oral administration; for severe cases, use five qian. Take after meals. For men, mix half with wine; for women, mix half with vinegar. Administer with Tongbian to transform blood stasis into yellow fluid. After taking this medicine, follow up with tonic medicines.
Pan's commentary: One indication is for postpartum residual blood not expelled, blood confusion and fainting, retained placenta, rapid pulse, unconsciousness, provided the heart region remains warm. Urgently administer one dose by灌 (pouring down the throat); once the blood stasis transforms into water and is discharged, the person will immediately regain consciousness, with miraculous efficacy.
Huarui Shi must be calcined and ground. Warm it separately with wine, vinegar, and Tongbian for mixing. Its function is to transform blood stasis into yellow fluid. Use three qian for mild cases and five qian for severe cases.
