Treatment for jaundice caused by excessive internal heat and excess syndrome, where the skin appears golden-yellow, accompanied by a floating, large, slippery, full, tight, and rapid pulse. Jaundice is mostly seen in individuals with a history of alcohol consumption who suffer from labor-induced heat, or those with reduced food intake leading to stomach heat, or those affected by warm-toxin accumulating internally as heat. Therefore, this formula is used for jaundice presenting with a golden-yellow hue.
Yinchen (Herba Artemisiae Scopariae), Huangbai (Cortex Phellodendri) each 1.5 liang; Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) each 3 liang; Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae), Fuling (Poria), Gualougen (Radix Trichosanthis), Qianhu (Radix Peucedani), Zhishi (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus) each 1 liang; Zhizi (Fructus Gardeniae) 20 fruits.
The above eleven ingredients are cut into pieces, decocted in nine sheng of water until three sheng remain, divided into three doses. Administer until loose stools occur; observe for three to four days, then treat again if necessary.
For patients who suddenly develop chills followed by jaundice without gradual onset, presenting with dry, dust-like yellow discoloration of the skin, scanty dark urine, occasional constipation, yet normal physical strength and appetite, and where residual heat persists despite previous treatments with various decoctions and powders for chronic jaundice, emetic and purgative methods are indicated.
Kushen (Radix Sophorae Flavescentis), Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis), Guali (Fructus Cucumeris), Huangbai (Cortex Phellodendri), Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei) each 1 liang; Tingli (Semen Lepidii seu Descurainiae) 2 liang.
Process the above six ingredients, grind into powder, and administer one fangcunbi (a square-inch measure) with warm water. It should induce severe vomiting. For those who vomit, take once daily; for those who do not, take twice daily. Alternatively, it may be administered to promote bowel movement. After five days, adjust based on condition. If symptoms do not subside, continue administration; if mild improvement occurs, reduce dosage and observe.
