Discussion states: The disease of internal consumption (Neixiao, 内消) is caused by heat in the interior. Urination exceeds fluid intake, causing extreme deficiency and shortness of breath. In internal consumption, food is digested and excreted directly as urine, and there is no sensation of thirst. In the tenth year of Zhenguan, Li Wenbo, Prefect of Zizhou, had taken *Quartzum Album* (Baishiyin, 白石英) for a long time. Suddenly, his sexual desire became excessively strong, lasting for over a month. Gradually, he suffered from thirst. After a few days, urination became excessive, occurring one hundred times a day and night. He tried various treatments, but the condition worsened. His limbs became emaciated, unable to rise or walk; his spirit was confused, mouth and tongue scorched and dry, and he died. Although this disease is rare, it is very fearful. During the episode, all six pulses were deep, fine, weak, and thin. Taking *Gouqi Tang* (Goji Berry Decoction) showed immediate effect, but did not lead to complete recovery. Taking *Qiandan San* (Lead Carbonate Powder) also reduced symptoms immediately. During this period, he also took *Chure Xuanbu Wan* (Heat-Removing and Tonifying Pill).

*Lycium chinense* branches and leaves (one jin), *Coptidis Rhizoma* (Huanglian, 黄连), *Trichosanthes radices* (Gualou Gen, 栝蒌根), *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma* (Gancao, 甘草), *Gypsum Fibrosum* (Shigao, 石膏) (each three liang).
The above five medicines are chopped, boiled in ten dou of water to obtain three sheng, divided into five doses, taken three times during the day and twice at night. For severe cases, prepare more decoction; drink when thirsty.
Prescription for treating Xiao Ke (Wasting-Thirst Syndrome) to reduce frequent urination and consumption symptoms.
*Minii Preparatio* (Qiandan, 铅丹), *Plumbi Subcarbonas* (Hufen, 胡粉), *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma* (Gancao, 甘草), *Alismatis Rhizoma* (Zexie, 泽泻), *Gypsum Fibrosum* (Shigao, 石膏), *Trichosanthes radices* (Gualou Gen, 栝蒌根), *Kaolin* (Chishizhi, 赤石脂), *Kaolin* (Baishizhi, 白石脂) (*Zhou Hou Bei Ji Fang* uses *Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus* (Beimu, 贝母)).
The above eight medicines, each five fen, are pounded and sifted. Take with water, one fangcun bi each time, three times a day. Strong individuals take half a bi. Those ill for one year are cured in one day. Those ill for two years are cured in two days. For severe thirst, take twice at night. Reduce dosage if abdominal pain occurs. Pill form is also good, take ten pills each time. Excessive intake causes abdominal pain. (Zhang Wenzhong says: Two or three days after finishing the medicine, it is advisable to boil mutton liver and tripe thoroughly and take them on an empty stomach. Making soup is also acceptable. Eat bland food. When urine becomes salty, it is more suitable to take *Congrong Wan* (Cistanche Pill) and use the decoction powder for care. See Volume 11 of *Waitai Miyao*).
