Etiology of difficulty in urination (obstruction of urine flow) lies in the presence of heat pathogens in both the Bladder and Kidney. The Kidney governs water metabolism, while the Bladder is the mansion of body fluids (Jin Ye). These two meridians are exteriorly-interiorly related. Water flows through the Small Intestine, and the portion entering the Bladder (Bao) becomes urine. Once the Kidney and Bladder are affected by heat, the heat pathogen enters the Bladder, causing excessive accumulation of heat qi. This results in obstruction and astringency, leading to difficulty in urination, accompanied by distension in the lower abdomen. In severe cases where Qi urgency is pronounced, water qi rebels upward, causing mental restlessness and abdominal fullness, potentially leading to death. Diagnosis reveals that if the pulse is tight, slippery, and straight, it indicates obstruction of urine flow. (From Volume 14)
