Examining ancient practices of taking elixirs, sages followed suit, compounding and refining them, preserving Daoist arts, detailing ascension to the Supreme Purity. This relies on immortal bones; if aiming for longevity, spiritual assistance is essential. This is the use of Golden Elixirs and Mineral Stones, not known by vulgar shallow minds. The concern is that as time deepens, secrets become obscure; although transmitted, few can correct them accurately. Moreover, those taking mineral stones vary in quality; though intending nourishment, methods are often crude, leading to vulgar discourse.
I have long valued the spirit of grain, resting my mind without medicine. For many years, I have roughly understood scriptures, knowing that even a slight error in text leads to deep misfortune in life and death. Therefore, I collected ancient and modern sources, evaluated theories and secrets, selected judgments from famous physicians, and compiled essentials. Establishing chapter titles, covering the harmony of five zang organs, diseases of meridians, invasion of eight winds, and discussions on physical signs and secrets, along with various families' wonderful care techniques, and methods for managing mineral stone elixirs and miscellaneous stones, I recorded and ordered them chronologically. Now deleting old theories and compiling new essentials, divided into two volumes, valuable as a thousand gold, standing shoulder to shoulder through ages, passed to future learners, clear as melting ice.
