The *Qianjin Fang* (Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) states that the "Evil Disease Great Wind" (Leprosy/Morbus Magni Ventus) presents in various forms. Initially, although there may be no obvious external abnormalities on the whole body, the eyebrows and beard have already fallen out; conversely, some patients have extensive destruction of skin and muscle throughout the body, yet their eyebrows and beard remain intact. If the patient scratches the body as if wearing thick fur, the etiology is not due to labor or servitude. Why? Once this disease takes hold, whether the person is wise or foolish, it is difficult to communicate with them. They appear compliant verbally but are disobedient internally, refusing medical advice. They rely solely on the efficacy of medicine and are unwilling to exert personal effort in recovery. Since the illness does not improve, treatment becomes futile. Patients who are benevolent are easier to communicate with, and thus can be treated.
Furthermore, it is stated that in the *Shenxian Zhuan* (Biographies of Divine Immortals), dozens of individuals achieved immortality after contracting the Evil Disease Great Wind. This was because they severed mental burdens and emulated the noble demeanor of Xu You (of Yingyang), thereby abandoning worldly affairs. However, once contracted, this disease often leads to death within ten years at most, or five to six years at minimum. Yet, patients often believe they will live to a hundred years old, which is deeply lamentable.
Additionally, upon contracting this disease, one must immediately cease salt intake and regularly consume Pine Resin (*Songzhi*). All public and private affairs should be abandoned with equanimity, like discarding worn shoes. All dietary flavors must be strictly eliminated, gradually leading to Bigu (grain avoidance). One should avoid secular interactions, cut off social celebrations and condolences, and reside in secluded valleys for about a year until recovery. After recovery, sexual activity must be strictly regulated for life; relapse occurs if violated. This disease has two aspects: auspiciousness and ominousness. Cultivating virtue leads to an auspicious outcome, while indulging in worldly pleasures leads to an ominous one. Here, the causes are briefly described for future students to read and reflect upon.
There is also a formula using Black Bean (*Wudou*) to treat the Evil Disease.
Select fine-grained Black Beans, rub and wash them, removing those where the skin has not fully detached. In March and April, harvest the seedlings and roots of *Aconiti Tenuifoliae Radix Praeparata* (Tianxiong Wu Tou), clean off the soil without washing, crush and squeeze to extract juice. Soak the beans overnight until they swell to the size of cooked beans, strain and dry them. Repeat this process seven times before consumption. Take three beans initially, gradually increasing to six or seven beans, taken daily.
There is also the Qibo Shen San (Divine Powder of Qibo), treating myriad diseases including carbuncles and sores (*Yongju*), scabies and leprosy (*Jielai*), wind-induced flaccidity (*Fengwei*), rotting of bone and flesh, pain in all joints, loss of eyebrows and hair, wandering itching sensations over the body, painful and ulcerated eyes, deafness, dental caries, and hemorrhoids.
Prepared *Aconiti Lateralis Radix* (Pao Chiqu Fu Zi), Prepared *Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix* (Pao Chiqu Tianxiong), *Asari Herba* (Xixin), Prepared *Aconiti Radix* (Pao Chiqu Wutou), *Ilicis Cornuti Caulis* (Zhi Yinyu, each 1 liang), *Zingiberis Rhizoma* (Ganjiang, 2 liang), *Cnidii Radix* (Fang Kui, 2 liang), *Aurantii Fructus Immaturus* (Zhi Zhishi, 2 liang).
Crush the above fifteen ingredients into a powder. Administer one fangcun bi (approx. 5-10g) with wine, three times daily. Do not increase the dose.
There is also the Wild Wolf Poison Powder (Yelangdu San) for treating the Evil Disease.
Prepared *Euphorbiae Pekinensis Radix* (Zhi Yelangdu), *Gastrodiae Rhizoma* (Qinjiao).
Grind the above two ingredients equally into a powder. Administer one fangcun bi with wine, twice daily. Recovery occurs in fifty days. Strict precautions are required.
Another formula:
Take refined Pine Resin (*Songzhi*), dip it in cold water twenty times, grind into powder, and mix with honey to form pills. Take 2 liang when hungry, three times daily. For those with nasal bridge collapse, recovery takes two hundred days. During treatment, abstain from salt, miscellaneous foods, and sexual intercourse.
There is also Duan Shi Jiu (Calcined Iron Wine), primarily promoting hair growth, thickening beard and eyebrows, and expelling the Great Wind.
Refined Pine Resin (*Songzhi*, 10 jin), Foxtail Millet Grain (*Shumi*, 1 shi), Calcined Iron Shavings (*Duanshi*, 1 shi, mixed and steamed until saturated), Yeast (*Shangqu*, 1 shi 2 sheng).
First, stir-fry the calcined iron shavings in a large cauldron. Place wood in the ashes until fire emerges. Chop 5 dou of Goji Root (*Gouqigen*), boil in 1 dan 5 dou of water until reduced to 9 dan 5 sheng. Strain the residue. Use this liquid to rinse the calcined iron shavings three times, then clarify. Mix the clarified iron liquid with the yeast according to standard brewing methods. Seal for forty-seven days. Open and drink 1-2 sheng. Maintain a continuous mild intoxication. No dietary restrictions apply, but avoid exposure to wind. Discard rice wash water and grain dregs by deep burial; do not let livestock, dogs, or rats consume them. This preparation is made from September to February. If upper diaphragm heat is suspected, take 3-5 mouthfuls of cold rice after drinking. For women suffering from chronic jaundice, emaciation, and bedsores (*Rufeng*), one shi of this wine is sufficient for recovery.
There is another formula for wind causing sensations of insects crawling on the body.
Boil 1 dou of Salt (*Yan*) in 1 dan of Water until reduced by half. Clarify. Bathe warmly 3-4 times. This also treats all types of wind pathogens.
Another formula:
Wash the face with pure ash water. Recovery occurs within one month.
Another formula:
Soit Soybeans (*Dadou*) in rice water. Warm and wash the face in the morning. If the scalp itches, add a small amount of flour to wash the head. Do not rinse with plain water. Ten washes guarantee recovery.
Another formula:
Mix equal parts of Refined Realgar (*Xionghuang*) and Pine Resin (*Songzhi*) with honey to form pills. Swallow ten pills with warm water, sized like paulownia seeds. Take twice daily. Recovery in one hundred days. Avoid alcohol, meat, salt, fermented soybean paste, raw/cold foods, and blood-generating foods. This method is secret and not transmitted. (From Volume 24)
The Near-Efficacy Brahmin Monk Formula for Treating Great Wind Disease, Suppressing Dan-Shi Heat Toxicity, and Wind-Heat Causing Limb Paralysis.
Niter (*Xiaoshi*, 1 da liang), Raw Sesame Oil (*Sheng Wuma You*, 2 da sheng).
Place the two ingredients in a cauldron. Cover the mouth with earth bricks and seal with paper mud to prevent gas escape. Heat slowly. When the medicine is uncooked, it smells fishy; when fragrant, it is cooked. Add 2 da sheng of raw sesame oil and simmer gently. Adjust to the desired consistency. Store in an airtight container. Administration: For Great Wind patients, use fire to induce sweating. Construct a small paper house inside the room. Burn fire outside the paper house to make the patient sweat inside. Take 1 he (approx. 200ml) daily. If the patient is strong, take twice daily. After 37 days, facial sores will disappear. If heat toxicity arises from other medicines or cinnabar/mercury pills, avoid hot foods, heavy clothing, and thick beds. For wind paralysis, two patients share one dose. Administration is the same, but do not use fire for sweating. Avoid wind for 14 days. Alternatively, place one spoonful in the mouth to dissolve and swallow the hot juice to clear heat. Follow medication contraindications. Obtained from Vice Director Lv.
