*Guangji* treats watery diarrhea and cholera; the formula from *Cui Shi* is the same, referred to as cold dysentery, characterized by undigested food in stool and discharge of white pus, occurring day and night without restraint, provided it is suspected to be a cold syndrome.
This formula governs the aforementioned symptoms.
Baidanshi (Halloysitum Rubrum), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger) (each 8 fen).
Crush and sieve the above two herbs into powder. Mix with boiling water and a small amount of thin flour paste to form pills the size of food pellets. If diarrhea persists after administration, increase Ganjiang to 8 liang.
Observe usual dietary restrictions.
Another formula for treating watery diarrhea with abdominal qi stagnation.
Fuling (Poria), Bailonggu (Fossilized Bones), Helilepi (Pericarpium Terminaliae Chebulae), Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis), Suan Shiliutpi (Pericarpium Punicae Granati Acidi) (each 8 fen).
Crush and sieve the above five herbs into powder. Form honey pills. Take on an empty stomach with water, pills the size of *Semen Sinapis Albae* (white mustard seed), 30 pills per dose, twice daily. Discontinue when cured. (From Volume 4)
Wen Zhong's Malin San formula for treating severe watery diarrhea occurring hundreds of times.

Grind the above three herbs into powder. Take one fangcun bi (square-inch measure) of the powder mixed with about one he (a unit of volume) of cooked decoction. Diarrhea stops immediately upon entering the stomach; it treats both cold and heat syndromes. It is commonly used with miraculous effect; do not underestimate it.
Another formula.
Xiugui (Ash of rotten wood), Niugui (Ash of cow bone) (also acceptable), Shenqu (Medicated Leaven) (stir-fried until yellow).
Mix the above three herbs in equal parts and grind into powder. Take one fangcun bi on an empty stomach with water. If Medicated Leaven made on the sixth day of the sixth lunar month is unavailable, ordinary Medicated Leaven may be used. For imperial physicians' use. (All from Volume 3)

*Bingyuan* states: "Chang gou" (intestinal mucus/foul matter) refers to the turbid and greasy nature of fluids in the intestines. This arises from the accumulation of heat-dysentery, causing intestinal deficiency and slipperiness, thus leading to the passage of intestinal mucus during dysentery. (From Volume 17)
*Zhouhou* formula for treating long-standing water retention/diarrhea that has not healed, where intestinal mucus has already been discharged.
Wumei (Fructus Mume) (20 pieces).

Wen Zhong's formula for treating chronic watery diarrhea difficult to cure.
Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis) (2 liang), Huangbai (Cortex Phellodendri), Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini) (2 liang, roasted).
Grind the above three herbs into powder. Boil half a sheng of Kujiu (bitter vinegar/wine) and half a sheng of honey. Add Ejiao and stir until melted. Then add the other medicines and form pills. Take three pills with water, four times daily. This is an ancient formula of extreme importance.
