[Pathogenesis] Re Lin (Heat Strangury) is caused by heat qi in the Sanjiao (Triple Burner) clashing with the Kidney and flowing into the Bladder (Pao), resulting in strangury. Its manifestations include red, scanty, and painful urination. There are also cases where a patient previously suffering from strangury experiences an exacerbation due to heat; if the heat is severe, it may transform into hematuria (blood in urine). Some patients may excrete fluid resembling bean soup residue after urination, and this condition occurs intermittently at specific times. (From Volume XIV)
Cheqiancao (Plantaginis Herba, cut, 1 sheng) Tongcao (Tetrapanacis Medulla, 3 liang, cut) Kuigen (Malvae Radicis Cortex, cut, 1 sheng) Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas, 6 fen, added when the decoction is ready)
Take the above four herbs, add seven sheng of water, boil to obtain two sheng of liquid, strain to remove dregs, add Mangxiao, and divide into three warm doses. The interval between each dose should be equivalent to the time it takes a person to walk six or seven li. Discontinue when mild diarrhea occurs. Avoid hot food. (From Volume IV)
Gujin Luyan treats strangury and frequent urination caused by heat in the Bladder, using Huashi San (Talcum Powder).
Huashi (Talcum, 2 liang) Gualou (Trichosanthis Fructus, 3 liang) Shiwei (Pyrosae Folium, 2 fen, remove hairs)
Grind the above three herbs into powder. Take one fangcunbi (a measure for powder) with clear barley gruel twice daily. (All from Volume XXVI)
Jin Xiao Fang treats Re Lin (Heat Strangury) occurring dozens of times day and night, ineffective after taking medicine.
Drink one to two sheng of Jinghua Shui (well water drawn at dawn) on an empty stomach; recovery is certain. This is the Shenxiao Fang (Miraculous Efficacy Formula) presented by Wei Honglu. After drinking the water, walking six or seven hundred steps is very beneficial.
[Pathogenesis] Lao Lin (Exhaustion Strangury) refers to strangury generated by heat arising from damage to Kidney Qi due to overexertion. Kidney Qi connects to the genitalia. Its symptoms include urine retention within the urethra, frequent urges to urinate without output, pain radiating to the lower abdomen, difficulty in urination, and onset triggered by fatigue. (From Volume XIV)
Qianjin Fang treats Lao Lin (Exhaustion Strangury), which flares up upon exertion, with pain radiating to the Qichong point, using moxibustion.
Moxibustion on the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian acupoint, located three cun above the medial malleolus, for one hundred Zhu (moxa cones), repeated three times. The treatment is the same as for Qi Lin (Qi Strangury).
Another formula treats strangury induced by Five Exhaustions and Seven Injuries, Eight Winds, and Twelve Bi syndromes; exhaustion-induced blood stagnation causing Xue Lin (Blood Strangury); heat-induced stagnation causing Rou Lin (Flesh Strangury); urinary obstruction; pain in the glans penis; and unbearable acute pain in the lower abdomen.
Huashi (Talcum, 3 fen) Wangbule Xingchong (Polygoni Multiflori Caulis, unspecified amount) Dongkuizi (Malvae Semen, unspecified amount) Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen, unspecified amount) Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus, unspecified amount) Gansui (Kansui Radix, unspecified amount) Tongcao (Tetrapanacis Medulla, 2 fen) Shiwei (Pyrosae Folium, 4 fen, remove hairs)
Grind the above eight herbs into powder. Mix with five he of hemp seed gruel and take one fangcunbi three times daily. Stop when urine becomes clear. (All from Volume XXI)
Gujin Luyan treats Shi Lin (Stone Strangury), Lao Lin (Exhaustion Strangury), and Re Lin (Heat Strangury) characterized by difficult urination and fullness/acute pain in the bladder, using Shiwei San (Pyrosae Powder).
Tongcao (Tetrapanacis Medulla, 2 liang) Shiwei (Pyrosae Folium, 2 liang, remove hairs) Wangbule Xingchong (Polygoni Multiflori Caulis, 1 liang) Huashi (Talcum, 2 liang) Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, prepared by honey-frying) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, both 2 liang) Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) Qumai (Dianthi Herba) Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix, all 3 liang) Kuizi (Malvae Semen, 3 liang)
Grind the above ten herbs into powder. Take one fangcunbi with clear wheat gruel before meals, three times daily. (From Volume XXVI)
