The *Qianjin Yi Fang* (Supplement to the Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) discusses that insects such as mantises, during the height of summer, are often in the process of reproduction. As they move across various objects, they inevitably leave behind seminal fluid. If this fluid dries for a long time, it becomes toxic. Human skin contact with it can lead to disease without immediate suspicion; hence, it is called "Fox Urine Thorn" (a dermatological infection caused by insect venom). Patients experience dryness and pain day and night, unable to sleep, and despite numerous treatments, the condition does not improve. Prescription:
Simply take the stems, leaves, and roots of *Taraxacum officinale* (Dandelion), break them, collect the white latex, and apply it thickly to the affected area (about one fen in thickness). The condition will heal immediately, proving highly effective. (From Volume 24)
The *Zhouhou Beiji Fang* (Emergency Prescriptions Kept Up My Sleeve) prescription for treating injuries from Fox Urine Thorns causing swelling, pain, and distress:
Soak the injured area in hot lye made from mulberry branch ash. Replace with fresh hot solution when it cools down until permanently healed. (Identical to Cui Shi's *Beiji Fang*, from Volume 8)
Cui Shi's prescription for treating Fox Thorn injuries:
Take high-quality fermented soybeans (*Douchi*), using enough to cover the foot. As soon as one feels pricked, chew the cooked beans thoroughly and apply the paste to the wound. After a short while, check if thorn hairs appear in the bean paste. If not seen, quickly chew more beans and reapply. Continue this day and night without interruption. Healing occurs once all thorn hairs are expelled.
Another prescription:
Heat and crush almonds, grind them finely, boil for one or two minutes, and soak the pricked area in the warm liquid. Change frequently for great efficacy. (Identical to *Gujin Luyan*)
The *Jiyan Fang* (Collected Proven Prescriptions) prescription for treating Fox Thorn injuries:
Pour hot fish broth into the wound.
The *Beiji Fang* (Emergency Prescriptions) prescription for treating Fox Thorn injuries:
Pour melted hot wax into the wound, and fumigate it with smoke until pus discharges and healing occurs. This refers to wood contaminated by fox urine, similar to snake bites. (Identical to texts from *Zhouhou*, *Duanju*, and Wenzhong, from Volume 8)
The *Bixiao Fang* (Must-Effective Prescriptions) prescription for Fox Thorn pain resembling bird pecking:
Mix equal parts of raw *Trichosanthes kirilowii* fruit (Gualou) and fragrant fermented soybeans (*Xiangchi*). Pound them into cakes and apply to the affected area. Replace when dry for effectiveness. (From Duan Family Prescriptions, Volume 6)
The *Qianjin Yi Fang* prescription for treating Malignant Thorns:
Pound seeds of turnip (*Brassica rapa var. nipposinica*) harvested in May into powder. Mix with black cow milk to seal the wound. If black cow milk is unavailable, any cow milk will suffice. (The original formula states human milk may also be used, from Volume 24)
The *Gujin Luyan* prescription for treating Malignant Thorns:
Take the grease from uncooked flatbreads. Mix with flour and oil. Apply to the wound shortly thereafter for immediate healing. (Alternatively, mix turnip root powder with flour and oil)
Another prescription:
Mix powdered yeast (*Qu*) with single-clove garlic, pound into a paste, and insert it into the wound hole. Healing occurs when the parasite emerges. (From Volume 35)
