Etiologically, Zheng disease (a condition characterized by fixed abdominal masses) arises from irregularities in cold and warmth, leading to deficiency of Qi in the fu and zang organs. Consequently, food and drink fail to digest, accumulate internally, and gradually proliferate, forming lumps that are entrenched and firm. The pulse is wiry and deep. If the mass remains immobile, death is inevitable. (From Volume 19)
Fan Wang’s Pill Formula for Treating Zheng Disease:
Shegan (Radix Belamcandae, 2 liang, processed by frying)
Shujiao (Fructus Zanthoxyli, 300 grains, processed until oil exudes)
Grind the above two herbs into powder and sieve finely. Mix with egg white to form pills, initially the size of sesame seeds, gradually increasing to the size of adzuki beans. Start with two pills the size of sesame seeds, gradually increasing to two pills the size of adzuki beans. If ineffective, slightly increase the dosage; stop when efficacy is achieved. (From Volume 13)
Jiyan Formula for Treating Chronic Abdominal Zheng Masses and Sudden Onset Zheng Disease:
Take one rooster, fatten it well. After fattening, fast it for two days. Feed it rice mixed with good red yeast rice, ensuring a high proportion of red yeast rice. Place the chicken on a board, collect its feces, dry them in the sun, and grind into powder. Take with warm clear wine, starting with a dose of half a fangcun bi (approx. 5g), up to one fangcun bi. Administer three times daily. If the condition is critical, administer five or six times day and night. One chicken may be insufficient; raise more chickens to obtain enough. (From Volume 6)
Beiji Moxibustion/Irrigation Formula for Treating Zheng Disease:
Wuzhuyu (Fructus Evodiae, 3 sheng)
Boil the above single herb in wine until hot. Wrap in cloth and apply as a hot compress to the Zheng area. When cool, re-fry and reuse alternately. As the mass moves, follow with compression until it completely dissipates.
The *Zhouhou Beiji Fang* states: Alternatively, use 5 liang of Shegan and Wuzhuyu powder, mix with egg white, and apply topically to the Zheng area. (From Volume 3)
Six Formulas for Sudden Onset Zheng Disease
Etiologically, sudden onset Zheng disease (abdominal masses appearing abruptly) results from weak organ Qi and consumption of raw/cold foods. Since the organs are inherently weak and unable to digest, the food condenses and aggregates into lumps suddenly. There is no gradual progression, hence termed "sudden Zheng." Rooted in organ weakness, the Zheng appears abruptly; once established, it can lead to rapid death. (From Volume 19)
*Zhouhou Beiji Fang* for Sudden Onset Zheng Disease: Abdominal mass hard as stone, pain like stabbing, crying day and night. Without treatment, death occurs within 100 days:
Take Niuxi Gen (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae, 2 jin, chopped and dried thoroughly).
Soak the above single herb in one dou of wine in a sealed container. Warm it in hot ashes until the medicinal properties extract. Take before meals, 5-6 he to 1 sheng, adjusting quantity as needed. Alternatively, use Shuobi Gen (Radix Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae), following the same method, which is highly effective. (Consistent with *Qianjin*, *Jiyan*, *Jingxin Lu*, and Zhang Wenzhong).
Furthermore, while most firm Zheng masses develop gradually, those that become large and fixed upon sensation are difficult to treat. Minor abdominal accumulations hinder digestion and cause emaciation. While treatments often utilize major formulas like Xianbing Yuhu Badu Yao, here we select smaller, easily accessible formulas.
Take Huzhang Gen (Rhizoma Polygoni Cuspidati), ensuring its shadow does not touch water. Obtain over one shi weight. Wash clean, dry, and grind into powder. Cook five dou of Shumi (Sorghum) rice, mix with the powder, and steep in five dou of good wine, sealing tightly. When the medicine dissolves and rice floats, drink 1.5 sheng. Do not consume salt. The Zheng should be expelled. Alternatively, take one sheng of Huzhang root, dry and pound a thousand times, steep in wine, and drink. Start with small doses, three times daily. This wine therapy for Zheng surpasses major drugs. (Consistent with Zhang Wenzhong).
Another Formula:
Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, 0.5 jin)
Puxiao (Natrii Sulfas, 3 liang)
Honey (1 jin)
Decoct the above three ingredients together, roll into pills the size of wutong seeds. Take ten pills, three times daily. (Consistent with *Beiji*, *Wenzhong*, and *Cui Shi*; note Cui Shi uses 0.5 jin Puxiao and 1.5 sheng honey, taking 20 pills twice daily. Otherwise consistent with *Zhouhou*. From Volume 1).
*Qianjin Yi Fang* for Sudden Onset Zheng Disease:
Garlic (10 slices, peeled, dried on doorways on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month)
Fulonggan (Caulis Longii, size of a duck egg)
Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi Cassiae, 1 chi 2 cun)
Grind the above three herbs together, mix with strong vinegar to a paste consistency. Apply onto cloth and cover the affected area. Dissipates in three days. (Consistent with *Zhouhou* and *Qianjin*; garlic without Guixin is also acceptable).
Another Formula:
Shanglu Gen (Radix Phytolaccae Acinosa) is pounded and steamed. Place new cloth on the abdomen, spread the medicine on the cloth, and cover with clothing. Change when cool. Continue until cured. Rest neither morning nor evening for several days. (Consistent with *Qianjin*, *Jiyan*, and *Zhouhou*. From Volume 19).
*Gujin Luyan* for Sudden Onset Zheng Disease:
Take a small bundle of Shuobi Gen (Radix Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae), wash clean, drain water, and slice finely. Steep in pure wine, submerging the roots for three nights. Take 5 he to 1 sheng, three times daily. If seeking rapid effect...
