A prescription from *Qianjin Yifang* for treating *zhengpi* (masses and accumulations) up to distension and fullness of the abdomen (Guzhang).
Uiniu Urine (one sheng)
The above single ingredient is decocted over a gentle fire until it resembles thick syrup. Take one piece, the size of a large date, on an empty stomach. One should hear intestinal rumbling as the pathogenic factor is expelled. Administer every other day. Observe dietary restrictions, etc.
Another prescription: Sanleng Grass Decoction. It primarily treats *zhengpi*.
Sanleng Grass (cut, one shi)
The above single ingredient is boiled with five shi of water to obtain one shi of liquid. Strain off the dregs. Re-decoct to obtain three dou of juice. Decoct again in a copper vessel using a double boiler method until it resembles thick syrup. Store in a sealed container. In the morning, take one bi (a spoonful) with one zhan of wine. Take twice daily. Each time, ensure the effect of the wine is continuous. (All from Volume 19)
Cui Shi's prescription for abdominal *zhengpi* accompanied by deficiency-heat. Purely cold and purgative medicines should not be used. A mild attacking method is suitable.
Bie Jia (Turtle Shell) (eight fen, roasted) Bie Jia (Turtle Shell) (eight fen, roasted) Sang Er (Fungus) (eight fen, golden-colored, roasted) Da Huang (Rhubarb Root and Rhizome) (eight fen) Wu Zhu Yu (Evodia Fruit) (eight fen) Fang Kui (Peucedani Radix) (eight fen) Fu Zi (Prepared Aconite Lateral Root) (four fen, processed)
The above seven ingredients are finely sifted. Mixed with honey to form pills the size of mulberry seeds. Take ten pills with Ku Jiu (bitter wine/vinegar). Take twice daily. Gradually increase by one pill. Stop when slight diarrhea occurs. No specific taboos. In the evening, take three or four he of Ma Xian Juice. Continue until recovery. This juice is also decocted separately; taking it warm to administer the previous pills is better. Ma Chi Cai is Ma Xian. Avoid pork and cold water. (Current analysis: The previous prescription using Bie Jia advises against eating Amaranth; stating to take Ma Xian juice in the evening along with the medicine is likely an error. From Volume 7)
Another: Wen Bai Wan (Warm White Pill). A prescription for treating *zhengpi* masses and all other diseases.
Zi Wan (Aster Root) (three fen) Wu Zhu Yu (Evodia Fruit) (three fen) Chang Pu (Acorus Rhizome) (two fen) Chai Hu (Bupleurum Root) (two fen) Hou Po (Magnolia Bark) (two fen, roasted) Jie Geng (Platycodon Root) (two fen)
Zao Jiao (Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit) (three fen, skin and seeds removed, roasted) Wu Tou (Aconitum Carmandii Root) (ten fen, stewed) Fu Ling (Poria) (two fen) Gui Xin (Cinnamon Twig Heart) (two fen) Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger) (two fen) Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome) (two fen)
Shu Jiao (Sichuan Pepper) (two fen, perspired) Ba [Incomplete text, likely Ba Dou/Euphorbia Seed]
The above fifteen ingredients are combined, pounded, and sifted. Mixed with white honey. Pounded another two thousand times. Form pills the size of mulberry seeds. Take two pills per dose. If no effect, slightly increase to five pills. Use "knowing" (effectiveness) as the limit. For long-standing accumulations in the heart and abdomen, chronic *zhengpi*, masses as large as cups or bowls, jaundice, retained food causing vomiting upon rising in the morning, chest and hypochondriac fullness with rebellious qi, frequent abdominal distension, hardness and knotting below the heart, upward rushing to the heart, lateral attack to both hypochondria, penetrating the back and connecting to the chest, pain without fixed location, colic around the umbilicus resembling insect bites. It also treats ten types of water diseases, eight types of blockage, regurgitation and vomiting, dysphagia, or five types of strangury and five types of hemorrhoids, or nine types of heart pain, indigestion over years, or women's dystocia, or infertility for many years, leukorrhea dripping, or malaria lingering for years without cure. It also treats all kinds of wind pathogens, body numbness and bi-syndrome, loss of sensation, hemibody pain, falling eyebrows and hair. It also treats seventy-two types of wind, and thirty-six types of Dun Zhu (migrating pain), epilepsy, manic depression, or women's five evils, dreaming of intercourse with ghosts, heavy limbs, inability to eat, lethargy, desire for death, constant sorrow and unhappiness, fear and dread, sadness and weeping, loss of taste, irregular menstruation resembling pregnancy, wasting away year after month until death, singing or crying, possessed by spirits, unknown to others. Those who take this medicine will surely recover. I know this formula is effective. I prepared the medicine and gave it to a woman. Ten days later, she passed more than thirty *zhengpi* worms, each two chi five cun long, three sheng of pus, one dou of black blood, and five sheng of green-yellow fluid. All suffering was removed. She conceived that same month. My brother fell from a horse and was injured; there was accumulated blood in his abdomen, which flared up on cloudy days. He was abnormally emaciated, bedridden for a long time, life hanging by a thread. I gave him this medicine. He passed black blood like chicken liver, one hundred pieces the size of a hand, two sheng of white pus, and about one sheng of red-yellow water. The disease healed. I know this formula is effective. Respectfully submitted. Taboos: raw/cold foods, maltose, vinegar, pork, mutton, fish, chicken, dog, beef, horse, goose meat, five pungent spices, scallions, noodles, greasy foods, beans, sticky glutinous rice, and foul-smelling substances.
