【病因】瘿病是由于忧思恼怒导致气机郁结所产生，也是因为饮用含有沙粒的水，沙随气进入脉搏，积聚在颈部下方而形成。初起时与瘿核相似，但应当用针穿刺治疗。
《肘后备急方》治疗颈部下方突然结块，囊状物逐渐增大即将形成瘿病。海藻酒方。
海藻（一斤，去除咸味） 清酒（二升）
以上两味药，用绢袋盛装海藻，用酒浸泡，春夏季节浸泡两天。每次服用二合，慢慢含咽下去，每天三次。酒喝完后，再用二升酒浸泡，像之前那样饮用。药渣晒干研成粉末，每次服用一方寸匕，每天三次，用完后再制作三剂效果更好。（崔氏、文仲记载相同）
又一方
昆布、海藻等分，研成粉末，用蜂蜜制成丸药，大小如杏核，含在口中慢慢咽下汁液。每天四五次。（均出自中卷）
《深师方》治疗瘿病方。
桂心 昆布（洗净） 海藻（洗净） 甘草（炙烤） 白面（炒至呈铜钱色，三分） 龙胆草 海蛤（研磨） 土瓜根
以上十一味药研成散剂，用醋浆水送服五分匕，饭前服用，每天三次。十天见效，药吃完即愈。忌食食盐、羊肉、饴糖、生葱、白菜。
又一方
海藻（二分，洗净） 龙胆草（二分） 昆布（二分，洗净） 土瓜根（二分） 半夏（二分，洗净） 小麦面（二分，炒制）
以上六味药研成散剂，饭前用酒送服一方寸匕，每天三次。二十天见效，三十天痊愈。忌食羊肉、饴糖。（均出自第二十九卷中）
《短剧方》认为瘿病，起初与瘿核相似，这种病喜欢长在颈部下方正中间，不偏向两边。如果不紧急发作，那就是瘿病。中国人因气息郁结而成瘿病的，只是下垂而没有硬结。长安及襄阳的蛮族人，因为饮用沙水容易患瘿病，有核累累，耳后无根，浮动在皮肤之中，那里的妇女容易患病。肾气充实，沙石的性质与肾相合，则使肾气实，所以患瘿病。北方妇女饮用沙水的，生育困难，不用针石无法产出，因此有许多未能救活的人，原因就在这里。
治疗瘿病方。
小麦（一升）
醇苦酒一升，浸泡小麦使其软化，滤出晒干，再次浸泡直到苦酒耗尽，将小麦晒干捣碎过筛，另外将海藻三两单独捣碎，与麦末调和均匀，用酒送服一方寸匕，每天三次。禁食盐、生鱼、生菜、猪肉。（《肘后备急方》、《崔氏备急方》说能治疗三十年瘿疾，《集验方》治疗瘿病酒方。）

秫米（三升，按酿酒方法蒸煮）
以上一味药，取圆叶白杨皮十两，去掉上面苍老的树皮，千万不要让皮见风，细细切碎，用水五升，煮取二升浓汁，浸泡曲末五两，用前面的秫米按酿酒方法蒸熟后，密封放置七天，然后空腹服用一大盏，每天两次，三天内……（原文此处似有缺漏，依文意补全逻辑：病情即好转）

以上六味药捣碎，过筛，用蜂蜜制成如梧桐子大的丸药，每次吞服七丸，立即停留在颈部下方的瘿处。快到吃饭时，先喝少量酒，送下丸子后再进食。忌食醋、蒜、盐、酪、臭肉、仓米等。如果瘿瘤较大，增加药量，以求治愈。
又第二方。
昆布（洗净） 海藻（洗净，各一斤）
以上两味药细细切碎，用好酒五升浸泡七天，根据量力服用次数，酒喝完再用酒浸泡两遍，药力耗尽，应当用此酒送服前面的丸药更好。（《备急肘后方》相同）
又一方
小麦（三升）
右边用三年陈醋三升，浸泡小麦晒干，干了再浸泡，使醋耗尽，再晒干。捣碎过筛成散剂，另外将昆布捣碎成散剂。每次服用……（原文此处有缺漏，依文意补全：尽即……）

救急治疗瘿病要切方。
鼠粘草根（一升，汤洗）
右边细切除去皮的鼠粘草根一升，单一药物，用水三升，煮取一升半，分三次温服，服药间隔时间如同人行走四五里的路程。宜顿服六剂，病即痊愈。另一法削去皮细切，取三大升，捣碎过筛成散剂，蜜和丸如梧桐子大，每次服二十丸，

[Pathogenesis] Goiter (Ying Bing) arises from emotional distress and anger causing Qi stagnation, or from drinking water containing sand, where the sand enters the pulse with Qi and accumulates in the lower neck. Initially, it resembles a goiter nodule, but should be treated with acupuncture.
*Zhou Hou Bei Ji Fang* treats sudden nodules under the neck that gradually enlarge into a goiter. Kelp Wine Formula.
Kelp (Hai Zao) (1 jin, remove saltiness) Clear wine (2 sheng)
Take the above two ingredients, place the Kelp in a silk bag, and soak in wine. In spring and summer, soak for two days. Take 2 he as a dose, slowly hold in the mouth and swallow, three times daily. When the wine is finished, soak again with 2 sheng of wine, and drink as before. Dry the dregs, grind into powder, take one fang cun bi as a dose, three times daily. It is best to prepare three more doses after finishing. (Same as recorded by Cui Shi and Wen Zhong)
Another formula
Kelp (Kun Bu) and Seaweed (Hai Zao) in equal parts, ground into powder, made into honey pills the size of an apricot kernel. Hold in the mouth and slowly swallow the juice. Four to five times daily. (All from Middle Volume)

Grind the above eleven ingredients into powder. Take 5 fen bi with vinegar-fermented rice water, before meals, three times daily. Improvement seen in ten days; cured when the medicine is exhausted. Avoid salt, mutton, maltose, raw green onions, and Chinese cabbage.
Another formula
Seaweed (Hai Zao) (2 fen, washed) Gentian Root (Long Dan Cao) (2 fen) Kelp (Kun Bu) (2 fen, washed) Sweet Potato Root (Tu Gua Gen) (2 fen) Pinellia Tuber (Ban Xia) (2 fen, washed) Wheat Flour (Xiao Mai Mian) (2 fen, stir-fried)
Grind the above six ingredients into powder. Take one fang cun bi with wine before meals, three times daily. Improvement seen in twenty days; cured in thirty days. Avoid mutton and maltose. (All from Volume 29)
*Duan Ju Fang* states that goiter initially resembles a goiter nodule. This disease prefers to appear in the center of the lower neck, not on either side. If it does not develop urgently, it is goiter. Chinese people who develop goiter due to Qi stagnation have only sagging without hard nodules. People from Chang'an and Xiangyang who drink sandy water are prone to goiter with multiple nodules, floating under the skin behind the ears without roots. Women in these regions suffer from it frequently. The kidney Qi is substantial; the nature of sand and stone combines with the Kidney, making the Kidney excessive, thus causing goiter. Northern women who drink sandy water face difficult childbirth; without acupuncture, delivery is impossible, leading to many deaths. This is the reason.
Treatment for goiter.
Wheat (Xiao Mai) (1 sheng)
Strong sour wine (Ku Jiu) 1 sheng, soak wheat until soft, filter out and dry. Soak again until the wine is exhausted. Dry the wheat, crush and sieve. Separately crush 3 liang of Kelp (Hai Zao). Mix with wheat powder. Take one fang cun bi with wine, three times daily. Avoid salt, raw fish, raw vegetables, and pork. (*Zhou Hou Bei Ji Fang*, *Cui Shi Bei Ji Fang* state this treats thirty-year goiter; *Ji Yan Fang* Goiter Wine Formula.)
Willow roots exposed to rain and dew (30 jin).
Boil in 1 hu of water until reduced to 5 dou. Add 3 dou of rice to ferment. Once the wine is ready, take 1 sheng before meals, three times daily. (Same as Fan Wang, from Volume 4)
Cui Shi's Kelp Powder, treatment for goiter.
Kelp (Hai Zao) (8 liang, wash to remove salty juice) Fritillaria Bulb (Bei Mu) (2 liang) Sweet Potato Root (Tu Gua Gen) (2 fen) Wheat Qu (Xiao Mai Qu) (2 fen, stir-fried)
Make the above four ingredients into powder. Take one fang cun bi with wine, three times daily.
Another formula
Millet (Shu Mi) (3 sheng, cook according to wine-making method)
Take 10 liang of white poplar bark (Yang Pi) with round leaves, remove the old outer bark, avoid wind exposure. Finely chop, boil in 5 sheng of water to obtain 2 sheng of concentrated decoction. Soak 5 liang of Qu powder in this decoction. Cook the Shu Mi according to the wine-making method. Seal and store for seven days. Then take one large cup on an empty stomach, twice daily. Zhang Wenzhong's Hermit Effective Goiter Treatment.
Kelp (Kun Bu) (washed) Ramie Vine (Song Luo) (each 3 fen) Seaweed (Hai Zao) (5 fen)
Crush the above three ingredients, make into honey pills the size of apricot kernels. Hold in mouth and swallow saliva, three times daily, twice at night. Very effective. (Same as *Bei Ji Zhou Hou Fang*)
Another goiter treatment, First Formula effective for Yang Cheng, Minister of Agriculture.

Crush and sieve the above six ingredients, make into honey pills the size of sophora seeds. Swallow seven pills per dose. They will stay at the goiter site under the neck. Before eating, drink a little wine to swallow the pills, then eat. Avoid vinegar, garlic, salt, dairy, spoiled meat, and stored rice. If the goiter is large, increase the dosage until cured.
Second Formula.
Kelp (Kun Bu) (washed) Seaweed (Hai Zao) (washed, each 1 jin)
Finely chop the above two ingredients, soak in 5 sheng of good wine for seven days. Take appropriate number of doses. When wine is finished, soak again twice. When medicinal power is exhausted, use this wine to take the previous pills for better effect. (Same as *Bei Ji Zhou Hou Fang*)
Another formula
Wheat (Xiao Mai) (3 sheng)

Areca Nut (Bing Lang) (3 liang) Tail-like Seaweed (Ma Wei Hai Zao) (3 liang, washed) Kelp (Kun Bu) (3 liang, washed)
Grind the above three ingredients into powder, make into honey pills the size of egg yolk. On an empty stomach daily, hold one pill in mouth, slowly let saliva extract juice and swallow. Avoid salt. Verified with Yang Cheng's formula. (Same as *Zhou Hou Bei Ji Fang*, from Volume 6)
Emergency Goiter Treatment.
Burdock Root (Shu Niu Za Cao Gen) (1 sheng, wash with hot water)
Finely chop 1 sheng of Burdock root (peeled), single ingredient. Boil in 3 sheng of water to obtain 1.5 sheng. Divide into three warm doses. Take one dose every distance equivalent to walking 4-5 li. Ideally take six doses consecutively for cure. Another method: peel, finely chop, take 3 da sheng, crush and sieve into powder, mix with honey into sophora seed-sized pills. Take 20 pills per dose.

Horsetail (Wen Jing) (1 liang, from islands) Sheep Thyroid (Ge Yang Ye) (5 pieces, remove fat, roast) Belamcanda Rhizome (Bai Lian) Pepper Seeds (Jiao Mu) Licorice Root (Gan Cao) (roasted, each 1 fen) Wheat Qu Powder (Xiao Mai Qu Mo) (2 liang, roasted)
Crush and sieve the above six ingredients into powder. Grind the sheep thyroid separately into powder. Mix well with fermented grain liquid, crush into jujube-sized pills. Take 5 pills per dose. No restrictions.
Another formula
100 sheep thyroids, soak in warm water, remove fat, roast. 20 jujubes, remove pits. Make into pills. Observe usual dietary restrictions.
Another formula
Take one sheep thyroid, remove fat, hold in mouth to extract juice. Spit out juice, discard skin. One piece daily. Cured after seven days.
Another Kelp Powder for Goiter.
Seaweed (Hai Zao) (10 fen, washed) Kelp (Kun Bu) (1 liang, washed) Clam Shell (Hai Ge) (1 liang, ground) Tetrapanax Pith (Tong Cao) (1 liang) Ramie Vine (Song Luo) (washed) Dried Ginger (Gan Jiang) Cinnamon Heart (Gui Xin) (each 2 liang)
