Wenzhong stated that any metal weapon injuries (Jinchuang) on the hands and feet occurring in the eighth or ninth lunar months, as well as various sores infected by cold dew and cold water toxins, are fatal and must not be taken lightly. The following prescriptions treat these conditions:
Take two strips of fresh bamboo or mulberry branches, heat them thoroughly in fire, break them off, and insert them into the wound. Replace with a new piece when the heat dissipates. After using two pieces, the sore should suppurate. Then, crush scallion whites (Xiebai), wrap them in cotton, place them in hot ashes until extremely hot, remove the cotton, apply the scallion whites to the sore, and bind tightly with cloth. (Identical to *Zhouhou Beiji Fang* and *Qianjin Fang*)
Another prescription for treating swelling and pain caused by exposure to water, foul lochia, wind, and cold:
Place several *he* (a unit of volume) of salt on the wound, roast it with fire until the heat penetrates deeply into the wound base. Then, put wax into a bamboo tube, insert the tube into hot ashes to melt the wax, and drip the melted wax into the wound; the condition will heal immediately. If salt is unavailable, use scallion whites instead; using only wax is also effective. (From Volume 5 of *Zhouhou Beiji Fang*)
*Beiji* prescription for treating swelling and pain in sores caused by wind, cold, water, and dew:
Swelling resulting from sores is caused by exposure to water and wind-cold. If the swelling qi enters the abdomen, it is fatal. The treatment is as follows:
Burn materials that produce abundant smoke, such as millet stalks, dried cow or horse manure, or mulberry branches. Dig a pit, burn the materials inside, cover the pit with a wooden board, and pierce a small hole in the board. Position the wound over the hole to fumigate it until all exudate drains out. It is also beneficial to drip hot wax into the wound. (Identical to *Jiyan Fang*, *Zhouhou Fang*, and *Wenzhong Fang*)
Another prescription:
Soak the wound in warm ash juice made from mulberry wood. This is highly effective; Yao claimed it was a miraculous remedy. (Identical to *Zhouhou Beiji Fang* and *Qianjin Fang*, from Volume 18)
*Jinxiao* prescription for treating pain in sores caused by water ingress:
Take a bundle of fresh green onions, crush them, and step on them with your foot. Replace them frequently after a short while; the patient will recover soon. (Recorded as effective by Councilor Li and Official Fang)
Liu Juanzi’s prescription for extracting arrows stuck in flesh from metal weapon injuries:
*Banxia* (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 3 liang, washed) *Bailian* (Ampelopsis Radix, 3 liang)
Sieve the above two ingredients into powder. Take one *cunbi* (a measure shaped like a square inch) with wine, three times daily. Arrows shallowly embedded will be expelled in ten days; those deeply embedded in twenty days. Ultimately, they will not remain in the flesh. (Identical to *Zhouhou Fang*, *Qianjin Fang*, *Wenzhong Fang*, and *Duanju Fang*, from Volume 3)
*Zhouhou Beiji Fang* prescription for sudden poisoning from venomous arrows:
Crush indigo (*Lanqing*), squeeze out the juice, drink it, and apply it externally to the wound. If indigo is unavailable, soak blue cloth in water, squeeze out the juice, drink it, and pour it into the wound. (Identical to *Zhouhou Fang*, Fan Wang’s prescription, *Wenzhong Fang*, and *Beiji Qianjin Fang*)
Another prescription:
Boil lotus root, extract the juice, and drink it. The more, the better. (Identical to *Zhouhou Fang*, *Wenzhong Fang*, and *Beiji Fang*)
Yet another prescription:
Consuming large amounts of fresh kudzu root (*Gegen*) leads to self-healing. Alternatively, crush fresh kudzu root, squeeze out the juice, and drink it. Dried kudzu root can be boiled and drunk. (Identical to *Duanju Fang*, *Qianjin Fang*, *Jiyan Fang*, *Beiji Fang*, and *Wenzhong Fang*)
Another prescription:
Mix equal parts of dried ginger (*Ganjiang*) and salt, grind into powder, and apply to the wound. The toxin will naturally discharge. (Identical to Fan Wang’s prescription and *Zhouhou Beiji Fang*; some versions suggest dried kudzu root).
Furthermore, there are three types of venomous arrows: Those used by Yi people in Jiaozhou and Guangzhou use bronze arrowheads heated until charred. Those used north of the Ling Mountains use juices from various snakes and insects applied to arrowheads soaked in tubes. [Text fragment missing regarding specific effects].
Another prescription for extracting arrowheads and blades lodged in hidden areas such as the throat and chest:
*Mudan* (Moutan Cortex, 1 fen) *Bailian* (Ampelopsis Radix, 2 fen)
Grind the above two ingredients into powder. Take one *cunbi* with warm wine, three times daily. The blade will naturally expel itself. (Identical to *Zhouhou Beiji Fang* and *Qianjin Fang*, from Volume 9)
*Duanju Fang* prescription for treating venomous arrow wounds:
Apply realgar (*Xionghuang*) powder to the wound; it heals. (Identical to *Zhouhou Fang*, *Qianjin Fang*, and *Jiyan Fang*; this prescription also treats snake bites)
Another prescription:
Eat several sheng of hemp seeds to heal. Drinking the juice of crushed hemp seeds is also good. (Identical to *Zhouhou Fang*, Fan Wang’s prescription, and *Qianjin Fang*, from Volume 10)
*Jiyan Fang* prescription for treating venomous arrows:
Fill the wound completely with salt, and moxa thirty moxibustion cones on top of the salt. (Identical to *Zhouhou Fang*)
Another prescription:
Boil reed rhizome (*Lugen*) juice, and drink one or two sheng. (Identical to Fan Wang’s prescription and *Duanju Fang*; some versions suggest boiling ginger juice and drinking two or three sheng)
Another prescription for treating uncontrollable bleeding from knife and arrow wounds:
Smear the wound with infant feces and bandage it. It heals in three days and does not harm the person. (From Volume 9)
