Source: The disease of Hongjiao (a condition characterized by swelling, pain, numbness, or atrophy of the feet), if complicated by Wind-Toxin, causes the Toxin to clash with the sinews, leading to sinew contraction; when Damp-Wind invades the blood, it causes Bi-syndrome. Thus, Bi and contraction occur.

(The following five sections on Feng Piangu include treatments for similar conditions such as Hongjiao Wind-Toxin.)
Source: Feng Piangu (Hemiplegia) arises from deficiency of Qi and Blood in one side, causing the Couli (pores and interstices) to open, allowing Wind-Damp to invade. When Wind-Damp lodges in half of the body between the muscles and interstices, it causes Qi and Blood to stagnate and flow sluggishly, failing to nourish the tissues. If not cured for a long time, vital Qi departs while pathogenic factors remain alone, resulting in Piangu. Symptoms include inability to move one half of the body, wasting and shrinking of muscles on that side, and localized small pains.
This condition is often caused by sorrow and worry. Treatments involving herbal compresses (Tangwu) and acupuncture/moxibustion (Zhenshi) have separate specific formulas, along with tonifying and guiding exercises, which are attached below. The Health Preservation Guide states: "Stand upright leaning against a wall, hold breath and circulate Qi from head to foot, stopping there. This cures ulcers, hernias, severe wind diseases, hemiplegia, and various Wind-Bi syndromes."
It also says: "Lie supine and raise both big toes, hold for five breaths, then stop. This guides away Bi-stiffness and hemiplegia of the waist and back, improving hearing and vision, keeping the sensory orifices unobstructed."
It further says: "Stand upright leaning against a wall, hold breath and circulate Qi, inhaling through the mouth until Qi reaches the head, then stop. This treats ulcers, Bi-stiffness, severe wind, and hemiplegia."
It also says: "Place one foot flat on the ground without moving, turn the body tilting the other foot sideways. Rapidly rotate hands left and right alternately fourteen times (two sets of seven). This removes Wind-Cold from the spine and unblocks hemiplegia." (From Volume I)
Shen Shi Da Ba Feng Tang (Great Eight Winds Decoction by Master Shen), for treating toxic Wind-Damp Bi causing traction/pain, or inability to move hands and feet, hemiplegia, weakness intolerable to toxins, or Wind invading the Five Zang organs causing恍惚 (trance/confusion), poor appetite, and mental deficiency.
