[Translation]
According to the etiology of disease, "Ghost Strike" refers to the sudden invasion of the human body by the pathogenic qi of ghost plagues. The onset is insidious without warning; upon striking, it feels as if one has been pierced by a knife or spear. There is severe twisting pain and cramping in the chest, hypochondrium, and abdomen, which cannot be tolerated or pressed upon. Some patients immediately vomit blood, some have epistaxis (nosebleed), and some have hematochezia (blood in stool). This condition is also called "Ghost Push," implying that ghosts push and touch the person. It occurs due to deficiency and weakness of Qi and Blood.
From *Zhouhou Beiji Fang* (Emergency Prescriptions Kept Up the Sleeve):
Regarding the disease of Ghost Strike, the onset is insidious without warning; upon striking, it feels as if one has been pierced by a knife or spear. There is severe twisting pain and cramping in the chest, hypochondrium, and abdomen, which cannot be tolerated or pressed upon. Some patients immediately vomit blood, some have epistaxis, and some have hematochezia. This condition is also called "Ghost Push." The treatment formulas are as follows:
Moxibustion at one cun above the umbilicus, seven moxa cones, and at the junction of the white flesh on both heels will cure the disease. (*Qianjin Yifang* records the same.)
Another formula:
Take three pieces of prepared mugwort (Ai Ye, Artemisiae Argyi Folium Preparatum) the size of a duck. Boil them in five sheng of water until two sheng remain. Take this decoction in one dose. (All from Volume I)
Wen Zhong's formula for treating Ghost Strike:
One sheng of salt, mixed and stirred with two sheng of water, drink it. Also spray the whole body with cold water. If vomiting occurs after a short while, the disease will be cured. (Same as *Beiji Zhouhou Fang*)
Another formula:
Take a pinch of rice powder, stir it in water, and drink it. (Same as *Beiji Zhouhou Fang*)
Another formula:
Use pure sour vinegar and insufflate it into both nostrils. (Same as *Zhouhou Fang*, all from Volume I)
*Beiji Fang*'s formula for treating Ghost Strike:
Burn mice to ash, grinding them to a powder the size of millet seeds. Mix with water and take orally. If unable to swallow, mix a small amount with water and apply to the throat. (Same as *Zhouhou Fang* and Wen Zhong's formula)
Another formula:
Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex) — equal parts.
Grind these three herbs into powder. Take one fangcun bi (a measure of volume approx. 2-3 grams) with wine. Recovery will be immediate. (Same as *Zhouhou Fang*)
There are also various pills and powders, all listed under the *Beiji Fang* section. Nowadays, shamans and mediums indeed report seeing people suddenly struck or pierced by spirits or ghosts. This may happen because they offended the spirits' ranks, encountered collisions, suffered from dispersion and weakness of their own spirit, or attracted misfortune through transgressions. Those with mild cases escape, but those with severe cases often die. This is no different from the stories of King Xuan of Zhou and Jian Gong of Yan; it is not false. We must delete the superfluous content and retain the Cang Gong Powder formula.
Te Sheng Fanshi (Alumen, burnt for half a day and ground), Zaojiao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus, roasted, peeled, and seeded), Xionghuang (Realgar), Lilu (Veratrum nigrum, processed/stir-fried).
Equal parts of the above four ingredients, pounded and ground into powder. This primarily treats sudden Ghost Strike, Ghost Push, and Ghost Stabbing causing heart and abdominal pain, death or unconsciousness due to bleeding, sleep terrors (Yan), biting the heel without awareness, and various diseases caused by evil toxic vapors. Take an amount of the aforementioned powder equivalent to a soybean, insufflate it into the nose using a tube. If sneezing occurs, Qi flows freely and the patient revives. If no sneeze, insufflate again.
*Qianjin Yifang*'s formula for treating Ghost Strike:
Moxibustion at one cun below the umbilicus, three moxa cones. (From Volume XXVII)
