According to *Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Symptoms of All Diseases): When Yang Qi is latent and Yin Qi is excessive, compounded by heat-toxin invasion, the patient presents only with yellowing of the body and complexion, accompanied by headache but without fever. This condition is named "Huang" (Jaundice) (from Volume 12).
*Guangji Fang* treats Jaundice, characterized by yellowing of the entire body, face, and eyes, with urine resembling the color of fermented soybeans. The Yichen San (Cephalaria Powder) formula:
Yin Chen Hao (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba, 4 liang), Baixianpi (Dictamni Cortex, 3 fen), Gualou (Trichosanthis Fructus, 4 fen), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 3 fen), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus, 4 fen), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix, 3 fen), Qingmuxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, 3 fen), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix, 3 fen), Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, 3 fen, stir-fried), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 3 fen), Zixue (Purple Snow, 8 fen), Tugua Gen (Polymniae Radix, 3 fen), Daqingye (Isatidis Folium).
The above fourteen ingredients are crushed, sifted, and made into a powder. Boil Mugwort Root water for drinking, let it cool. In the morning on an empty stomach, take five qianbi (a traditional unit of measure for powder) with the Mugwort Root water. After a short while following ingestion, mild diarrhea should occur. After the diarrhea stops, eat a thin porridge made with scallions and fermented soybeans. If diarrhea is excessive, gradually reduce the dosage as appropriate. Generally, aim for mild evacuation, with one or two bowel movements per day as the limit; discontinue when recovered. Avoid pork, cold water, fish, garlic, sticky/greasy foods, and all hot-natured foods (from Volume 1).
*Bixiao Fang* treats Yin Jaundice, characterized by yellowing of the eyes, sweat that stains clothing, and yellow sputum and saliva. Formula:
High-quality Huangzheng (Yellow Fermented Rice, 2 large sheng).
Take this single ingredient, soak it in 2 large sheng of water every night, and warm it in a copper vessel until hot, ensuring it does not boil. In the morning, squeeze out half a sheng of juice and drink it; the remaining juice can be drunk shortly after. In winter, take it slightly warm; in summer, take it chilled. Soak nightly and follow the previous method of administration. Every night, soak a piece of white cloth in urine; the fading of the cloth's color serves as verification of efficacy. Both formulas are extremely effective. Avoid wheat products, mutton, pork, and fish.
Another formula for treating Jaundice, characterized by sweat staining clothing and yellow sputum and saliva:
Take Vitex Fruit (Man Jing Zi) and crush it into fine powder. In the morning, mix one large spoonful well water and ingest it. Take twice daily, gradually increasing to two spoonfuls, stopping when therapeutic effect is achieved. Every night, soak a small amount of cloth in urine, recording the date each day. When the cloth color gradually fades to white, the disease is cured. Taking no more than five sheng will surely result in recovery. This was transmitted by Li Runzhou and is extremely effective (*Beiji Qianjin Yaofang*, *Zhouhou Beiji Fang*, Zhang Wenzhong’s works, *Shenshi Fang* record the same, from Volume 1).
