Stir-fried salt. Wrap in cloth and apply heat compress (ironing) to the affected area.

Treats back feeling cold, as well as postpartum wind-cold in women causing cold limbs extending to the bones. Also treats lower back pain. Take fresh ginger juice extracted from half a jin of ginger, 3 liang of gelatin, 1.5 qian each of frankincense (Ruxiang) and myrrh (Moyao). Melt in a copper spoon. Place over boiling water to simmer. Stir with a willow twig until it becomes a paste. Add 3 qian of Sichuan pepper powder and stir evenly. Spread on skin paper and apply to the lesion. Frequently heat and iron with shoe soles. Remove after five to seven days. If small blisters appear, this indicates dampness escaping outward.

This is deficient fire. Grind raw Aconite root (Sheng Fuzi) into powder, mix with saliva, and apply to both sole centers (Yongquan acupoints).

Select chicken gizzard lining (Jineijin) that did not fall into water, dry in shade. When using, moisten with warm water and apply. Re-moisten as it dries, continue until healed. If already ulcerated, bake chicken gizzard lining until crisp, grind into powder, and sprinkle on the wound. Alternatively, take one piece of ginger, roast on charcoal fire, scrape layer by layer into powder, mix with pig bile, and apply. Or for swelling and redness, crush floating duckweed (Fuping), mix with egg white, and apply.

Apply pork or mutton fat to seal the area. (Also treats breast carbuncle). Or burn human feces to ash, mix with vinegar, and apply. Change when dry. Or knead white flour to form a ring around the swelling, soak with urine from seven men. Or seal with horse manure. Change when dry. (Also treats women's breast carbuncle). Or slice fresh melon cucumber (Wanggua) and apply. First wash the area with Sichuan pepper soup, then apply. Or cook ramie root leaves, crush, and apply. Change multiple times. Effective. Or crush banana root and apply. (Treats migratory wind rash). Or cut off the head of a winter melon, place over the sore. When the melon rots, replace with another, continue until healed. For those already ulcerated: Take 4 liang of frankincense (pressed on hot brick wrapped in bamboo leaf to remove oil), 4 liang of purified myrrh (remove oil by same method), fresh olibanum blood resin (Xuejie), Hangzhou lead powder (Dingfen), high-quality red lead (Huangdan) (each 4 liang), and 3 qian of basic copper carbonate (Tonglü). All ingredients must be ground separately until silent. Sieve into extremely fine powder. Mix together. Temporarily, according to the size of the lesion, take one sheet of double-layered oil paper, prick many small holes with a needle. Weigh 5 qian of medicine powder per sheet. Tie tightly. Flip over. Prick many small holes again as before and apply. Because the medicine is expensive, this utilizes the medicinal power of both sides. For those lacking Yang Qi, internally administer Shiquan Dabu Decoction (Complete Great Tonifying Decoction).

(Recipe for making black plaster) Take 1 jin of oil, 8 liang of refined red lead (Fei Huangdan), 1 liang of palace powder (Gongfen), several inches of locust branch (Huai Zhi), one ball of hair (washed thoroughly), 5-7 rusted nails (cleaned of dirt), 5 qian of basic copper carbonate (Tonglü). Boil the oil, add nails. Boil through several cycles, remove nails. Add locust branch, boil until withered, remove. Add hair, burn until charred, remove. Add red lead, powder, and copper carbonate, boil into a plaster. Place in water. Remove overnight and apply. The effect is miraculous, with almost no failure.
