Toad venom (1 fen), realgar (3 fen), centipede (1 piece). Grind into fine powder. Make pills with wine paste, size of *Clerodendrum trichotomum* seeds. Take 5 pills each time, washed down with scallion decoction.

Dried ginger (8 fen), cassia twig (1.5 qian), white mustard seed (1.5 qian), immature bitter orange (1 qian), olibanum resin (4 fen), pinellia tuber (1 qian), iris pseudacorus rhizome (1.5 qian), musk (5 fen). The above medicines are coarsely ground together. Mix well with mugwort floss. Sew a double-layered belly band using large red gauze, and place the medicine inside.
Four-year-old rice starch flour (4 liang). Stir-fry until black and smoking occurs. Remove and grind finely. Sieve to remove coarse residues. Mix with good vinegar to a thin paste consistency. Then apply externally. It is effective for treating all kinds of red and white swelling and toxic sores. The effect is miraculous. If there is no pus, it will dissipate; if there is pus, it will ulcerate. This prevents the spread of the condition, hence the name "Iron Hoop". This prescription is said to be a secret formula from the Ni family in the market district. Do not dismiss it just because rice starch flour is an inexpensive item. Regrettable, truly regrettable.
(Also known as the External Medicine Supreme Treasure Thousand-Beaten Plaster. A family heirloom of the Ni family.)

When it turns snow-white, then place it in the trough for grinding.) Note: Gypsum must be heated thoroughly until extremely hot and snow-white. During grinding, remove the coarse residue from the head and tail ends. Medicinal stir-frying spatula. (For refining plasters.) Iron ladle, cloth for squeezing dregs (When refining plaster over fire, cover quickly. Otherwise, the medicine will burn dry.) Bottles (Total of three or four yuan needed. Fifty bottles for powders. Three or four gourd-shaped bottles for large pills. Five for small pills.) Those refining plasters must use an iron pot on a portable stove in an open field. Prepare ingredients first. East cinnabar should be authentic. Ask the pharmacy assistant to buy it. Costing several hundred wen. (Medicines were procured in Suzhou.)
Nine-to-One Calx (i.e., cooling medicine added with Indigo naturalis, named Shengjie San. It is cheap and effective.) Use ten parts Gypsum fibrosum and one part yellow mercury sulfide calx. Excellent for flesh regeneration. Grind finely. (If toxic, it draws out poison; if non-toxic, it promotes flesh growth.) Ma's Eight-Treasure Calx (Essential for flesh regeneration in carbuncles of the back. Very effective.) Chen's rice starch flour (Stir-fry until black as lacquer. Mix with vinegar to apply for Yin syndromes. Useful for phlegm nodules that rise slightly, such as those palm-sized, which can be drawn into the palm shape.) When symptoms improve, e.g., in back carbuncles, if the upper half has pus and the lower half does not, half growing and half retracting, white putrid tissue indicates poison, while red scaly tissue indicates new flesh. Medicines for drawing out poison and promoting flesh growth must be ground until silent. Otherwise, it causes pain and inefficacy. Bleeding gums: Blowing in stir-fried Polygonum multiflorum powder is effective.
Large wooden frame (Supported by a wooden base below, made of hard wood, height equal to a person. Square structure, drawer at the bottom. Center depressed to hold the mortar. Two vertical wooden posts on sides, horizontal beam in the middle, round hollow handle rod supports it.) Round medicine mortars (One large, two small), small brooms (three), medicine grinding sticks, scales (two), needle (one), winnowing trays (two pairs, for drying pills, preventing mold/dampness/stiffness/rot). Cloth for spreading plasters. Buy green and red cloth, approx. 34-41 chi. Paste with foreign paper. Sweep with elm bark broom. Two layers thick. One layer for thickness. Stick against the wall behind to dry before use. Method for spreading plasters: Small iron pot (Place furnace below, iron cup in the middle. Light lamp grass to smoke, roll with foreign iron needle to spread.) Oil paper cutting knife (one), thin oil paper (ten sheets, cut to size), white paper (fifty sheets, for packaging medicine, cut and hung with needles). Usage of plasters: Red for wind-damp-pain, blue for removing toxic flow. White copper spoons (Four large, two small). Bottle stoppers (Hundred sturdy ones made by firecracker shops, costing 100 wen). Applying medicine: Stirring too much makes it sticky; scoop soft and mild. Check applied medicine; if sweat pores have sweat, the medicinal qi disperses. Do not look at toxic gates.
For applying injury plasters: Wipe with fresh ginger before reapplying for faster medicinal action, without other concerns. For removing toxic plasters: Same as above. Sprinkle roasted salt on the plaster, rub/massage, and apply ginger slice moxibustion, etc. Boiling plasters: Prepare willow wood stick first. Stir when necessary. Stop when the plaster is black as lacquer and shiny as a mirror. Stir evenly, pour into water. Tear off pieces as needed. Large covered jar (Green ones, three for storing medicated pastes). Small covered jars (Four, taken from bowl shops, for storing cooling blood-clearing liquids). Wool-lined basin (For storing flesh-regenerating plasters, Stemona root plasters). Head wind plaster: Mix cinnamon and clove into the plaster for application. For heat-pain, add mint powder and angelica dahurica powder. Apply warm. Yanghe Plaster (Requires separate boiler). Rotting small plaster uses oil paper (Use cloth for spreading scattered plaster scenes). Moxibustion method: Small square brick seat, new tile inverted like a bowl. Fire under the tile. Need seven or eight bricks. Refining honey: Pour honey into copper spoon, melt over reed slices below. Tongue depressor (One piece, to press tongue for throat examination, and mix medicated pastes). Knife substitute medicine (Wider means larger mouth opening, thicker means deeper opening). Applying medicine: Leave top intact if formed, apply unevenly if unformed. Not suitable for opened itchy sores. Powder applicator brush (Remove head of old brush, dip in powder). If major toxins are not exhausted, do not promote flesh growth. Promoting flesh growth may force toxins inward, causing new ulcers. If half putrid half fleshy, remove putridity and promote flesh growth. For high, red, painful swelling: Apply cooling medicine. For diffuse, non-red, non-painful swelling resembling a head: Apply warming-dispersing medicine. Contraindicated for fistulas. (Avoid moving lower limbs.) Ding sores: Puncture head with silver needle, then apply Ding-drawing powder. Change root area easily.
Boiling plasters: Tung oil (1 jin), lead powder, hair. Can be done in five days. Start with strong fire, then weak fire. Otherwise, it burns. Hit the lid with a fork to prevent burning into charred blocks. Prevent accidents in open spaces. Castor beans and jujube kernels with oil: Wrap in paper, press with stone to remove oil.
External conditions like breast cancer, internal abscesses, back carbuncles, and neck carbuncles: Examine carefully multiple times before using medicine. If the situation is severe, seek efficacy, listen to others' advice. Ulcers: First disperse, then support and tonify. Use for deficiency to assist pus formation. For unformed pus suitable for resolution: Press hard, not hot, mostly red.
Using plaster method: For hard ulcers difficult to penetrate despite repeated application, do not use if protruding. Use only if deep and pus drains to both sides.
Ulcer ulceration: Plasters should not be tender; they should be old and thin for easier application. Only injury plasters need to be tender.
Ulcer deficiency: Diffuse and light. Ulcer excess: High swelling. Heat swelling: Red and hard. Cold ulcer: Wooden and dark. Dampness swelling: Feels like rotten cotton when pressed (flows yellow water if broken). Wind swelling: Wrinkled skin, red, slightly hot. Phlegm swelling: Soft as cotton, hard as eel (not red, not hot). Qi swelling: Skin tight, flesh soft when pressed (softens with joy, grows with anger, not red, not hot). Trauma blood stasis swelling: Not hot, not red. Sudden swelling already formed, resembling ulceration: Color must be purple.
Ulcers belonging to Yang: Ripen in 14 days. Belonging to Yin: Ripen in 21 days. No pus means not soft. Pus ripe means soft. Unformed: Rises immediately upon pressing. Formed: Rises quickly upon deep pressing, indicating yellow fluid. Deep pressing rises slowly: Contains dirty pus.
Pressing feels solid and painful: Blood. Pressing feels solid but not painful: Qi. Light pressing causes pain: Pus formed. Heavy pressing causes pain: Pus is deep. Fat people: More pus. Thin people: Less pus. After pus discharge: Strictly avoid cold-cooling medicines. For Fire syndromes: After pus removal, use neutral-natured medicines. Near tendons: For symptoms starting with itching, moxibustion is suitable.
Goiters, tumors, and lymph node swellings: Not suitable for surgery. Sores near hair: Must shave hair before applying plaster to avoid sticking pain.
All sores and trauma: Once exposed to sexual intercourse, pain starts immediately. Women with knife wounds: When menstruation arrives, sores must hurt. Siwu Chaihu Decoction. Bruised skin not broken:必有 internal stasis. Should attack and unblock. Pain lasts 10 days, healing period 20 days. Toxic gas attacking heart: Huxin San is insufficient. Urgently take 3-4 liang of white rock sugar.
Wang Hongxu said: Only use puncturing for Ding sores. Strictly prohibit Shengjiang Er Dan (Ascending and Descending Calxes) to prevent rotting.
For residual essence after carbuncles/ulcers: Must examine well before treating. Hemorrhoids are the same. Major carbuncles must avoid filth accumulation. E.g., menstruating women approaching closely worsens swelling/pain, making recovery difficult. If a woman thinks she is menstruating, medical treatment rarely works. Effect seen only after menstruation ends. Also avoid sexual intercourse. A little flesh-regenerating medicine forms a scab. If covered too much, it becomes hard, requiring pus drainage instead. For unsoftened symptoms: Do not apply cold-cooling medicines. If half-swollen half-dark: Should include acrid-hot properties.
Symptoms of swelling/pain rising, thirst, constipation: Possibly Yang. Specifically treat with cold-cooling medicines. Swelling causing pain, chills/fever, headache: All exterior syndromes. Disperse them. Severe pain: Pathogen in meridians. Harmonize them. Diffuse swelling/pain without ulceration: Blood/Qi deficiency. Urgently support and tonify. Sudden darkness without ulceration, or ulcerated but not healing: Yang Qi decline. Warm and tonify. Constipation: Pathogen interior. Purge and promote movement.
Xue Lizhi stated: Shape injury causes pain, Qi injury causes swelling. Both caused by rich flavors, roasted foods, and food toxicity. Regardless of location, red swelling must resolve. If irritability, drinking cold, red/painful fever, urination/defecation obstruction: Internal blazing fire. (Siwei Qingliang Yin, or Huoming Yin adding Rhubarb.) Mild swelling/redness/pain: Yang Qi deficiency. Shenqi Tuoli San. Slight darkness/chills, no pus formation, or ripe but not ulcerating: Yang deficiency cold. Qianjin Tuoli San. Thus, unformed cannot simply be resolved.
For ulcerative sores, if urination/defecation remain closed after pus discharge: Toxin not resolved. (Qingre Xiaodu Tang.) Fever subsides but thirst remains: Fluid insufficiency. (Bazhen Tang adding Ophiopogon.) Fever persists, swelling/pain worsens: Deficient heat acting internally. (Baoyuan Tang with heart-clearing/blood-purifying items.) Fever subsides, muscle does not grow: Shiquan Dabu Decoction. Ulcer white and sunken: Severe cold. (Wuwei Yigong San.) Hands and feet cold: Liujunzi Tang adding Ginger/Cassia.
