This condition occurs on the bone of the back of the head. Its symptoms manifest as a hard lump initially forming at the affected site. Because it is neither red nor swollen, it is easily overlooked; people who only realize it when swelling and pain gradually appear are not uncommon. For treatment, at the initial stage, apply Maliang Gao (Cooling Hemp Paste) externally, and internally administer Zhongjiu Wan (Nine-Pill Medicament) combined with Jinggong Wan (Golden Centipede Pill), so that the pathogenic toxin will naturally dissipate. If the toxin does not dissipate, pus will inevitably form, and one should follow the treatment methods described earlier. If after ulceration the pus discharge remains un-dried for a prolonged period, risking the formation of a callus-like structure, insert medicinal threads three times daily. Within six to seven days, the callus will fall off. Cleanse with Xunxi Tang (Fumigation and Washing Decoction), then apply Tianran San (Natural Powder) to promote tissue regeneration and flatten the wound margin.
This sore arises at the nape of the neck opposite the throat, representing a critical condition. Neglect or delayed treatment can lead to death. The treatment begins with applying Maliang Gao externally. Observe the degree of pain: if pain ceases after application, it is an easily treatable case. Internally administer Zhongjiu Wan, and follow the treatment protocol for carbuncles and furuncles by applying cooling agents externally to dissipate the swelling. If there is itching at the onset, with black hardness under the skin resembling a horizontal stone bar, affecting the ears with swelling and pain that is milder during the day and heavier at night, failing to suppurate over time, accompanied by loss of appetite, this indicates the "Seven Evils" syndrome. Follow the previous protocol for carbuncles and furuncles, employing formulas to support the interior and drain pus. After six to seven days, the black color turns red, and white blisters the size of millet grains appear around the periphery. Internal suppuration and necrosis occur. First wash with Xunxi Tang, then apply Gezhi Gao (Paper-Interposed Ointment). After the necrotic tissue is completely cleared, sprinkle Jiuneijin (Chicken Gizzard Lining) powder mixed with Jiawei Tianran San (Modified Natural Powder) onto the wound, leading to recovery.
This sore appears in the depression above the Zuo Jianjing (Left Shoulder Well, GB21) acupoint. The treatment is identical to that for Ru Hua Sore (Breast Flower Sore): administer Zhongjiu Wan to promote tissue regeneration and flatten the wound margin.
This sore is similar to the Left Jianhua Sore (Left Shoulder Flower Sore); the treatment method is likewise applicable.
This sore occurs on the left and right Fanshi Gu (Clavicle). The treatment is the same as for the Jianhua Sore.
This sore commonly develops in the fleshy area of the Da Kua (upper thigh/groin region). It is caused by patients who are obese, have a preference for fried, roasted, and richly flavored foods, and engage in excessive sexual activity, thereby attracting wind-dampness. This leads to stagnation of phlegm-dampness accumulating repeatedly. Initially, there is a sensation of bony distension without severe pain, presenting as a raised lump with grayish-white skin color. After about a month, it enlarges to the size of a dou (a traditional unit of volume), accompanied by tidal fever, headache, and body ache. If tidal fever persists beyond six to seven days, the bone within the upper thigh will inevitably become painful. Physicians often mistakenly treat this as wind-damp-phlegm stagnation or bone-joint pain, resulting in frequent ineffectiveness. One must recognize this as a Yin-Toxin condition, characterized by pain that is milder during the day and heavier at night. The treatment involves taking Fire Cong (Fire Scallion) one jin and Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger) one jin, pounding them into a paste, heating them in a wok, wrapping them in cloth, and applying hot compresses to the painful area. Replace and reapply as they cool. Afterward, add Shi Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma) two liang, heat again, and continue compressing. The toxin will emerge through the skin, turning red and swollen. Internally, administer Zhongjiu Wan along with the aforementioned interior-supporting formula plus Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) three qian. Externally apply Maliang Gao. When the pus dries and fluctuation upon pressure is detected, apply Huarou Gao (Flesh-Dissolving Ointment). When the tissue turns black, puncture the sore head with a needle to allow pus drainage. If no pus drains, insert Huarou Gao into the hole, allow maceration for one shichen (two hours), then puncture again; pus will surely drain. If pus discharge persists without drying, insert a medicinal thread once and apply Jiedu Gao (Detoxifying Ointment). Continuously take Zhongjiu Wan to clear heat-toxin, preventing complications. Avoid fa-wu (stimulating foods).
