Carbuncles, back carbuncles. Hemorrhoids with fistulas, malignant ulcers. Stubborn tinea, traumatic injuries and other conditions. Use oxhide glue boiled to an appropriate consistency. Spread it on Mao Tou paper. Apply one piece each time onto the swollen ulcer. Then use two pieces of soft cloth boiled in strong vinegar. While hot, apply them over the glue paper for steaming therapy. Replace when slightly cool. Continue until the ulcer itches and pus is nearly exhausted. Then boil Guanzhong Decoction (Cyathulae Radix) thickly to wash off the glue paper and apply a plaster. The next day, follow the sun-baking method. Continue until pus is exhausted and the ulcer is dry. Subsequently, apply Shengji San (Flesh-Generating Powder) as a plaster. Change the plaster the next day, continuing the previous steaming and washing methods.
For Yin Back Carbuncle, around fifteen days after onset. It is hard, does not ulcerate, nor suppurate. It cannot disperse outward. It inevitably leads to internal attack by toxins. This causes irritability and restlessness. The body feels heavy as if carrying a stone. Without this method to extract and lift the toxin. The toxic qi cannot exit. It truly has the merit of reversing critical conditions. For surgeons specializing in sores and ulcers, this method is indispensable. The method uses fresh Acorus Tatarinowii Rhizome (Changpu), Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Qianghuo), Angelicae Pubescentis Radix (Duhuo), Perillae Folium (Zisu), Mugwort Leaf (Qiai), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi), Licorice Root (Gancao) (each 5 qian), and Scallion with roots (Lianxu Congbai) (2 liang). Use ten bowls of clear water. Boil vigorously dozens of times and set aside. Next, take a section of fresh tender bamboo, seven cun long, with a diameter of one cun two or three fen. Keep one end with the node. Scrape off the green skin, leaving the white part. Thickness about one fen. Drill a small hole near the node. Plug it with a larch wood strip. Place it in the aforementioned medicinal liquid. Boil vigorously dozens of times. Remove the bamboo tube and pour out the liquid. Still soak it in the medicinal juice for later use. Next, use a Pi Zhen (Bistoury) to puncture three holes within one cun above the top of the ulcer. Arrange them in a "pin" shape. Insert deeply about one cun. Place the basin of medicinal liquid in front of the patient's bed. Take the bamboo tube, pour out the remaining liquid. While hot, quickly place it over the ulcer opening. Press tightly. It will naturally adhere. Wait for a moment. When the bamboo tube becomes warm. Remove the wooden plug from the hole. The tube will fall off naturally. Pour the contents into a vessel. Observe the mixture of pus and blood. If it is bright red and yellow, it is treatable. If it is purely necrotic blood and thin water, with a foul odor and purple-black color, it is untreatable. This is a family-tradition method verified repeatedly. Do not neglect it. For Yang ulcers, this method is not necessary. It may damage Qi and Blood. Be cautious.
When examining major ulcers. First, start from the day symptoms appeared. Count how many days it has been. Check if the condition matches the duration. Secondly, examine the source of the disease. Identify the affected location. Determine which Zang-Fu organ it belongs to. Then differentiate between Yin and Yang, old and young, and assess the abundance or deficiency of Qi and Blood. Finally, diagnose the pulse to determine excess or deficiency, smoothness or reversal, to decide the prognosis.
