Washing possesses the efficacy of scouring and cleansing. Through washing, Qi and Blood will naturally flow smoothly; toxins will easily undergo suppuration and putrefaction, without causing stagnation or obstruction. For swellings located in the four limbs, soaking (Zi) is used; for those on the waist, abdomen, spine, and back, pouring/lavaging (Lin) is used; for those in the lower parts, bathing (Yu) is used. All methods involve dipping cloth or cotton into the medicinal liquid for washing. The material should be replaced when it becomes slightly cool. For mild cases, wash once daily; for severe cases, wash twice daily (morning and night). Daily washing must not be interrupted. During washing, in winter, strong fire should be used to drive away cold qi; in summer, one should wash near a bright window to avoid wind and chill. If these precautions are not observed, mild cases may hinder wound healing, while severe cases may transform into Pure Yin syndromes. Regarding the medicinal liquids for washing, they vary: for initial swelling and impending ulceration, Cong Gui Xiao Zhong Tang (Scallion and Angelica Swelling-Reducing Decoction) is used for hot washing. For Yin syndromes that fail to rise or suppurate, Ai Rong Fu Fa (Mugwort Floss Application Method) is used. After ulceration has occurred, Zhu Ti Tang (Pig Trotter Decoction) is used for hot washing. Zhu Ti Tang is employed to assist the Qi of flesh regeneration and expel putrid tissue. This method of washing and cleansing is an essential therapy in Surgery (Yang Ke).
Cong Gui Xiao Zhong Tang (Scallion and Angelica Swelling-Reducing Decoction): This decoction treats carbuncles, ulcers, and sores during the stage of initial swelling and impending ulceration. It is used for washing until a sensation of heat and itching arises within the sore.
Du Huo (San Qian / 3 qian), Bai Zhi (San Qian / 3 qian), Cong Tou (Seven heads), Dang Gui (San Qian / 3 qian), Gan Cao (San Qian / 3 qian).
Take the above five herbs, add three large bowls of water, and decoct until the liquid is rich and concentrated. Filter out the dregs. Dip silk fabric into the hot decoction for washing; replace with fresh warm liquid as it cools.
[Prescription Verse] Scallion and Angelica Washing for Various Toxins, Suitable for Initial Swelling Impending Ulceration, Wash Until Heat and Itching Arise as the Limit, Du Huo, Bai Zhi, Scallion, Angelica, and Licorice Combined.
Ai Rong Fu Fa (Mugwort Floss Application Method): This paste is effective for treating Yin sores that are black, depressed, and painless. Its use is beneficial. If pain is felt, it indicates potential for healing; if there is no pain and purple blood is discharged, the prognosis is poor (fatal). However, internal administration of major tonifying and Yang-restoring formulas is necessary to support this treatment.
Liu Huang (Wu Qian / 5 qian), Xiong Huang (Wu Qian / 5 qian), Ai Rong (Yi Jin / 1 jin).
Grind Liu Huang and Xiong Huang into powder. Mix with Ai Rong and decoct in water for half a day. When the water is nearly dry, remove the Ai Rong, pound it into a pulp, and apply warm to the affected area. Re-decoct and reapply; repeat more than ten times as a course.
[Prescription Verse] Mugwort Floss Application Treats Yin Sores, Effective for Black Depressed Painless Lesions, Realgar and Sulfur Boiled with Mugwort, Pounded into Paste for Certain Recovery.
Zhu Ti Tang (Pig Trotter Decoction): This decoction treats carbuncles, ulcers, and various toxic conditions with pus discharge. After proper preparation, it is used for washing to assist Qi of flesh generation, reduce swelling, disperse wind, relieve pain by removing putrid tissue, eliminate foul flesh, revitalize necrotic muscle, and moisten the wound edges. If the putrid tissue has completely cleared, this decoction is unnecessary; instead, rice-washing water (Mi Gan Shui) should be used for hot washing to keep the wound clean. Do not wash excessively; excessive washing damages fluids, causes skin breakdown, and hinders muscle regeneration and wound closure.
Huang Qin, Gan Cao, Dang Gui, Chi Shao, Bai Zhi, Feng Fang, Qiang Huo (Equal parts).
Grind the above seven herbs into coarse powder. Determine the quantity of herbs based on the size of the lesion. First, take one pig foretrotter, boil in six bowls of water until soft. Strain the broth, clear it, and blow off the oil film from the surface. Add one liang of the coarse herb powder to the broth. Simmer over low heat for about ten boils. Filter out the dregs. Wait until the liquid is slightly warm. Place a square basin close to the body beneath the sore. Use soft silk to dip into the liquid and lavage the sore, pouring it into any cavities. Gently press to drain all internal pus, allowing foul and old pus to exit with the liquid, stopping when clean. Fold soft cloth seven or eight layers, dip in the liquid (keeping it from drying out), cover the sore, and gently press with both hands for a moment. Replace the cloth when it cools. Repeat pressing four or five times to promote Qi and Blood circulation, detoxify, relieve pain, and resolve stasis. After washing, dry with silk, then apply appropriate topical medications according to the syndrome.
