Carbuncles, back carbuncles, hemorrhoids with fistulas, and malignant sores are best treated with the method of steaming using ox-hide glue. The glue is boiled until thick, spread on paper, and applied to the affected area; soft cloth boiled in vinegar is then applied hot for steaming, which is effective. This method is suitable for warm-type sores that itch easily, allowing pus to drain completely. Afterwards, wash with Guanzhong Decoction (Jianzhong Tang), remove the glue paper, and apply external plasters.
[Note] For carbuncles, back carbuncles, hemorrhoids with fistulas, malignant sores, and chronic ulcers that are stubborn and difficult to heal, take a piece of ox-hide glue, boil it with water to the appropriate consistency, spread it thickly on paper, and cut off pieces to apply to the sore opening. Then, boil two pieces of soft cloth in strong vinegar, place them hot over the glue paper on the skin for steaming. Replace when slightly cool, continuing until the sore itches and pus drains completely. Prepare two liang of Cyperus rotundus (Guanzhong), decoct in water, and wash hot to remove the glue paper, then apply external plasters. Continue steaming and washing the next day until pus is exhausted and the ulcer dries up.
In the yin syndrome of carbuncles within half a month after onset, the sore does not rise or suppurate, remaining hard and firm like a stone. With toxic pus stagnating internally causing restlessness, extraction should be prioritized. Use a Pi needle to make three holes in a "pin" character pattern on the top of the sore. Fresh pus indicates a favorable condition, while purple-black pus indicates difficulty in treatment.
[Note] In the yin syndrome of carbuncles, around fifteen days after onset, the sore fails to rise or suppurate externally, with deep-seated pus unable to break out. The lesion is hard and heavy as if carrying a stone, with toxic pus eroding healthy tissue internally, causing restlessness. It is advisable to use the bamboo tube extraction method first to provide an outlet for toxic pus. Pre-boil bamboo tubes in medicinal liquid. Then, use a Pi needle to puncture three holes in a "pin" character pattern within one cun on the top of the sore, at a depth of one cun or half a cun, depending on the height of the sore. Take a bamboo tube and press it hot onto the sore holes to extract pus and blood. If the pus and blood are bright red and yellow, it is a favorable syndrome and easy to treat; if purple-black, it is a deteriorating syndrome and difficult to treat.
Formula for Boiling Bamboo Tubes: Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Zisu (Perillae Folium), Qi'ai (Artemisiae Argyi Folium), Changpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (each 5 qian); Lianxu Cong (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus with roots) (2 liang). Use ten bowls of water, boil several times, and set aside. Select a fresh tender bamboo segment, seven cun long, with an outer diameter of one and a half cun. Leave one end with the node intact, scrape off the green skin, thickness about one fen. Drill a small hole near the node and plug it with a fir wood strip. Place it in the aforementioned medicinal liquid and boil dozens of times. Place the pot containing the medicinal liquid near the patient's bed. Remove the tube, pour out the liquid, and immediately press it hot onto the needle holes on the sore top, pressing firmly so it adheres naturally. After a short while, when the bamboo tube warms up, remove the fir wood plug; the tube will fall off easily. Cover with an external plaster to prevent wind exposure. If pus and blood are not fully drained, boil the bamboo tube again the next day and extract through the same holes. This is an excellent method for draining pus from yin sores without pain; do not neglect it. For yang sores, this method is unnecessary as it may damage qi and blood; exercise caution.
[Formula Song]: Medicinal liquid-boiled bamboo tubes have miraculous effects, allowing pus to drain without pain. Contains Changpu, Zisu, Qianghuo, Duhuo, Aiye, Baizhi, and Gancao, boiled with whole scallions and bamboo tubes.
