Chunfeng (Lip Wind) is caused by the upward attack of Stomach Fire in the Yangming channel. Its manifestations include itching and swelling of the lower lip, with rupture and weeping fluid; although painless, it is difficult to heal. It is suitable to soak and wash the affected area with Tongfen Wan (Copper Powder Pill), and internal administration of Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) will lead to self-healing.
Tongfen Wan (Copper Powder Pill)
Prescription Verse: Tongfen Wan contains Guanfen (Refined White Lead) and Mingfan (Alum), Qingfen (Malachite), Qinfen (Calomel), and Shexiang (Musk), combined with Huanglian Gao (Coptis Paste) and Bingpian (Borneol); treating ulcerated eyes and Chunfeng is not difficult.
Ingredients: Qingfen (Malachite) (5 qian), Guanfen (Refined White Lead) (3 qian), Mingfan (Alum) (1.5 qian), Qinfen (Calomel) (1.5 qian), Shexiang (Musk) (0.15 qian), Bingpian (Borneol) (0.12 qian), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (2 liang, sliced and decocted into a thick paste).
Preparation and Administration: Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Use the Huanglian paste as a binder to form pills the size of a Chinese quince seed. For each use, take one pill, dissolve it in hot water, cover with paper, and wash the affected area while still warm. Frequently rinse with clear water from the top layer; the lesion will heal naturally.
Regarding diseases such as Fabei (Back Carbuncle), Duikou (Opposite Mouth Ulcer), and Da Chuang (Large Sores), when they have ulcerated and are discharging pus, whether in winter or summer, it is advisable to place four or five layers of silk fabric underneath the plaster. Cover this with cotton cloth cut into eight-inch squares, secure the corners with fine snake-skin straps, and tie them tightly across the chest to compress the wound firmly. This prevents the loss of warmth within the sore, facilitating the expulsion of necrotic tissue. Prepare two sets of bandages for replacement during washing. It is crucial to maintain a sensation of intense heat within the lesion; this method is highly effective and is therefore recorded here.
When the internal and external necrotic flesh of Yongju (Carbuncle and Ulcer), Duikou, or Da Chuang has been completely removed, and only scabbing and suppuration remain, but the underlying tissues have not yet adhered, apply seven or eight layers of soft silk gauze to the affected area and bind it tightly. Have the patient lie on the area multiple times to promote natural adhesion of the internal and external tissues, resembling newly grown healthy flesh. For any remaining unhealed parts of the wound, apply Yuhong Gao (Jade Red Ointment) until the tissue levels out.
After the Winter Solstice, take ten jin of clean Puxiao (Mirabilite) and one dou five sheng of water. Add five jin of crushed white radish and boil together in a pot until fully dissolved. Once the liquid boils sufficiently, remove the radish. Line a bamboo sieve with two layers of绵纸 (cotton paper) and place it over a new vat. Slowly pour the nitre solution through the sieve. Continue adding the solution until filtration is complete. Place the vat in an open courtyard for three days to expose it to the air. The nitre will crystallize on the sides of the vat. Pour off the remaining water and drain until dry. Remove the nitre crystals. Place a clay pot on a charcoal stove and melt one bowl of nitre until boiling. Stir with a copper spoon. When it begins to solidify, transfer it into a small fish-vinegar jar, leaving about one cun of space at the top. Repeat the refining process. Once finished, drive three nails into the ground in a "pin" character pattern under each jar, leaving 1.5 cun exposed. Float the jar on the nail heads. Cover the jar mouth with a tile and surround it with a brick kiln ("baiyan lu") spaced 1.5 cun away. Insert burning charcoal into the kiln, ensuring bottom and top fires protect each other, until the nitre inside the jar turns red. The next day, remove the nitre. Spread large sheets of cotton paper on clean, cool ground. Grind the nitre finely and sift it onto the paper to a thickness of approximately one qian. Do not make it thicker. Close all doors and windows and keep people away. After three days, the nitre will naturally "revive," becoming white like powder, light, fluffy, and forming flakes. Store it in a mortar, covered with paper, and add a layer of loose paper about one cun thick on top to absorb moisture and prevent clumping. This product is most effective in descending fire, resolving phlegm, and clearing the zang-fu organs. It can eliminate strange diseases and cure mania immediately; it searches out and removes hundred diseases and calms the spirit. Moreover, taking it does not damage the Yuan Qi (Original Qi); it is only unsuitable for those with chronic diarrhea and dysentery. Adults should take 3-4 qian per dose, and children 0.5-1 qian, dissolved in plain boiled water or green onion soup on an empty stomach. After two or three bowel movements, drink thin rice porridge. One will naturally feel refreshed and robust, with harmonious spirit and sudden generation of fluids in the zang-fu organs, causing hundred diseases to vanish. Additionally, add 6 liang of Xiaoshi (Niter), 3 qian of Zhusha (Cinnabar), 1 qian of Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis), and 1.5 qian of Bingpian (Borneol). Grind all into fine powder, sift onto paper as before, cover with another layer of paper, and press the edges tightly with a ruler to prevent leakage of qi. After three days, remove and store tightly. This is also known as Yangchun Zixue (Spring Purple Snow). It is most effective for treating loss of heart-mind memory, epilepsy, amnesia, pediatric acute convulsions, and strange adult conditions. Take 0.5-1 qian per dose, dissolved in light bamboo leaf and Jiedixin (Centipedes' Grass/Scutellaria Barbata? Note: Jiedixin usually refers to Centipeda minima or similar, often used for clearing heat) soup. It has frequent miraculous effects, which cannot be fully described. Xuanming Fen (Mirabilite Purified) is a divine life-preserving medicine. When consuming it, add 1 liang of raw and cooked Gancao (Licorice Root) powder per jin. Dissolve 2-3 qian in green onion soup. It makes the complexion lustrous, lightens the body, and delays aging.
