Shanghan Fayi (Typhoid Parotitis), also known as Handu (Sweat Poison). This condition arises because the original pathogenic wind-cold was not fully dispersed by medication, and over time transformed into heat that failed to dissipate. This leads to swelling, lump formation, and pain in the anterior and posterior regions of the neck. If fever and thirst are present at the onset, use Chaihu Gegen Tang (Bupleurum and Kudzu Decoction) to clear heat and detoxify; if the affected area is red with severe heat, apply Ruyi Jinhuang San (Ruyi Golden Yellow Powder) externally. If there is no fever or thirst at the onset, use Niubang Ganjie Tang (Arctium and Platycodon Decoction) to disperse the pathogen; if there is slight heat without redness but with pain, apply Chonghe Gao (Harmonizing Ointment); if the swelling is deep, persistent, and about to suppurate, use Tuoli Xiaodu San (Interior-Supporting and Toxin-Expelling Powder); if it has already ulcerated with deficiency of qi and blood and poor appetite, use Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction). By treating according to this method, unformed pus can be resolved, formed pus can be drained, and ulcerated wounds can heal. This is a standard and reliable therapeutic approach, considered very stable in practice.
