The main symptom of Lung Abscess (Fei Yong) is chest fullness. The Lung stores Qi and externally governs respiration. Its meridian branch emerges horizontally from the Lung system to the axilla. Therefore, there is panting and fullness in both hypochondriac regions. This describes the symptoms seen in Lung Abscess.
The main symptom of Liver Abscess (Gan Yong) is difficulty in urination. The Liver governs fright. The Liver meridian follows the thigh, enters the pubic region, circles the external genitalia, reaches the lower abdomen, passes vertically through the diaphragm, and spreads over the hypochondrium. Thus, there is fullness in both hypochondriac regions, fullness in both costal margins, fright when lying down, and inability to urinate. This describes the manifestations of Liver Abscess.
The main symptom of Kidney Abscess (Shen Yong) is fullness in the lower abdomen. This describes the manifestations of Kidney Abscess.
When Five Zang organs accumulate heat, carbuncles arise in the Six Fu organs. "Wen" means accumulation; "Shu" means heat. Heat accumulated in the Five Zang organs transmits to the Six Fu organs. Yang-heat contends with each other; where heat passes, a carbuncle forms. This explains that carbuncles arise from heat accumulated in the Five Zang organs affecting the Six Fu organs.
When the Six Fu organs are disharmonious, stagnation and knotting form carbuncles. The Six Fu organs belong to Yang and govern Qi. The muscles are covered by Yang meridians. When pathogenic factors wander in the Six Fu organs, the meridians on the muscles become disharmonious. Pathogenic factors stay in the skin and flesh, gathering to form carbuncles. This explains that carbuncles arise from pathogenic factors affecting the Six Fu organs.

Nowadays, wealthy people consume rich and greasy foods for long periods without restraint. These substances with strong flavors and properties are "Yang within Yang." They cannot travel through the orifices but instead move contrary to the Yin pathways, reversing into the muscle texture. This causes dampness to prevail greatly. According to the Five Elements theory, Earth (Spleen) can make its mother Fire (Heart) excessive, causing Fire to blaze. Once damp-heat is abundant, it inevitably attacks the Kidneys. If combined with emotional disharmony, it will damage the True Water of the Kidneys. Once the Kidneys are affected by pathogens, prolonged deficiency leads to a lack of Kidney Water. With insufficient Water, the condition transforms following damp-heat and ascends. Such sores often appear on the back and head. This is the most severe type of Da Ding (Major Ding/Carbuncle). If the toxic qi travels to the Lung or Spleen/Stomach areas, the toxicity is secondary. If it appears in other meridians, it is even less severe. Wherever damp-heat toxic qi stops, ulceration occurs. Hence, the classics state: "Changes from rich food and fat produce major Ding." Receiving this disease is like holding an empty vessel to receive objects; nothing is not received. Therefore, the treatment method for Da Ding must involve draining Ying-Qi heat. From the perspective of root and branch, the initial pathology is the root. Without using bitter-cold agents as the sovereign drug, one cannot eliminate the suffering and pain.
