Various sores and ulcers, after lingering for a long time, form open wounds with continuous discharge of pus. The pus is not foul-smelling, and there is no necrotic tissue inside. One must first administer a large dose of a decoction containing Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), and Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) to support the healthy qi and expel toxins outward. Alternatively, pills may be taken; it is especially suitable to use Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) that has been thoroughly soaked, sliced into pieces approximately two or three fen thick, placed on the sore, and moxa-converted. Meanwhile, continue taking the aforementioned tonifying and supporting formulas. Moxa-convert again every three days. Within five to seven sessions, the flesh will naturally grow and fill the wound.
In cases where there is foul pus and debris, with gradual ulceration and deep-rooted infection, mix flour, Liu Huang (Sulfur), and Da Suan (Allium Sativum Bulbus) together until mashed. According to the size of the sore, shape the mixture into a cake, approximately two fen thick, and place it on the sore. Apply twenty-one moxa cones (zhuang). Replace the cake after each cone. Afterward, every four to five days, alternately apply Cui Xia Ding Zi (Emerald Cloud Pill) and Xin Xiao Ding Zi (Trustworthy Effectiveness Pill) into the wound to completely remove necrotic tissue and allow healthy flesh to grow flat. Then apply astringent and flesh-regenerating medicines externally, and take internal remedies corresponding to the disease condition. With proper regulation, recovery will occur.
(Attached: Fermented Soybean Bean Cake Method)
Grind Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) into powder, mix with saliva to form a cake of thickness equivalent to a coin weighing three qian, place it on the sore, and moxa-convert. If the sinus tract is large, use a large moxa cone; if small, use a small one. Moxa only until warm and comfortable, ensuring no pain. Replace when dry. Stop if the patient feels fatigued; resume the next day as before, until the flesh levels out. Continue applying the previous tonifying medicine as a plaster. The Fermented Soybean Bean Cake is specifically used for treating Back Carbuncle (Fa Bei Ju), whether ulcerated or not. Take Dan Dou Chi (Sojae Semen Praeparatum) from Jiangxi, grind into powder, mix with saliva to form a cake, and place on the affected area for moxa-conversion. If the cake dries, re-moisten with saliva. For larger sores, mix with water and pound into a hard paste. Shape into cakes approximately three fen thick according to the sore's size. If there is already an opening, do not cover the hole directly. Arrange the bean cakes around the perimeter, place moxa cones on top, and moxa-convert until slightly warm without damaging the flesh. Change immediately if heat causes severe pain. Moxa twice daily. For those with pre-existing openings, healing occurs once fluid drains from the hole.
Moxibustion with Garlic Slice Yuan Rong stated: Sores caused by external pathogens are not suitable for moxibustion, while those originating internally are suitable. External pathogens should be expelled outward via supportive methods, preventing inward penetration; internal toxins should be guided outward. Thus, the classics state: "Depressed lesions are treated with moxibustion." Dan Xi said: The onset of carbuncles and sores may result from accumulated internal heat or external cold constraining internal heat. If moxibustion is applied externally at the initial stage to dissipate toxicity, early treatment can transform severe conditions into mild ones and deep lesions into superficial ones. Dong Yuan said: When initially suspecting a Back Carbuncle, before it fully forms, presenting with redness, heat, swelling, and pain, first cover the area with wet paper. Immediately observe which part of the paper dries first; this indicates the head of the carbuncle. Take garlic slices, approximately three qian in thickness equivalent, and place them on the head. Apply large moxa cones. Replace the garlic slice after every three cones. Moxa painful areas until they cease to hurt, and non-painful areas until they become painful. Early detection and early moxibustion are superior. If treated within one to three days, ten moxa sessions may save ten patients; within three to four days, six or seven sessions may save some; within five to six days, three or four sessions may save some. Do not moxa after more than ten days. If multiple heads cluster together, crush garlic into a paste, form a thin cake, lay it over the heads, and gather moxa cones to burn. This can also save lives. If initially red and swollen with a yellow millet-grain-sized pustule in the center, use a single clove of garlic, cut off both ends, take the middle slice of appropriate thickness, place it on the head, and moxa fourteen cones, up to forty-nine cones. *Ben Shi Fang* records: A person suffered from a back carbuncle in April; treatment for over a month worsened the condition. Moxa was applied directly to the sore head from morning till evening, totaling one hundred fifty cones, stopping only when pain was felt. The next day, black scabs were removed with tweezers. Once pus was exhausted and pain ceased, other medicinal applications began, changed daily. During changes, previous black necrotic tissue was removed. Recovery occurred after about a month.
