In the treatment of ding swelling (ding abscess), one must puncture the center of the wound until pain is felt, and then puncture the surrounding area more than ten times to allow blood to flow out. After removing the blood, apply medicine so that its efficacy can enter through the needle holes; if the depth is not sufficient, the medicinal power will not reach the interior. Additionally, observe whether there are red-black spots resembling beads on the cheeks and tongue inside the mouth. If pressing the wound causes severe pain that resonates in the heart region, it indicates cold toxin accumulated in the skin during autumn and winter, transforming into this type of sore. If not treated urgently, the root of the toxin grows day and night, flowing into various meridians like an arrow entering the body. If one does not carefully regulate diet and sexual activity, death will follow swiftly.
1. Hemp Seed Ding (Mazi Ding): The lesion presents as raised flesh with a head the size of a millet seed, slightly black in color, with mildly red surroundings, often accompanied by itching. Avoid consuming hemp seed oil, wearing cloth garments made from hemp, and walking in hemp fields.
2. Stone Ding (Shi Ding): The lesion involves skin and flesh connected, hard like a black bean, resistant to puncture, with slight muscle pain. Avoid contact with tiles, gravel, or bricks.
3. Male Ding (Xiong Ding): The head is black and depressed, surrounded by elevated edges with exudate, yellowish and large as a coin hole, with a high shape. Avoid sexual intercourse.
4. Female Ding (Ci Ding): The sore is slightly yellow, depressed inwardly, resembling a moxibustion scar, with elevated sides containing exudate, a concave center, and reddish color like a coin hole. Avoid sexual intercourse.
5. Fire Ding (Huo Ding): The appearance resembles scalding by hot water or fire, with a black depressed head, smoky exudate around the edges, and resembling red millet grains. Avoid burning or cauterization.
6. Rotting Ding (Lan Ding): Slightly black with white patches, ulcerated with pus discharge, sized like the surface of a spoon. Avoid boiling hot food and rotten substances.
7. Thirty-Six Ding (Sanshiliu Ding): The head is black and floating, shaped like a black bean, with redness around the edges. One appears today, two tomorrow, up to ten. If it reaches thirty-six, it cannot be cured by medicine; if less than thirty-six, it is treatable. Avoid anger and harboring resentment.
8. Snake Eye Ding (Sheyan Ding): The head is black, skin floats above, shaped like a small bean, resembling the size of a snake's eye, hard in texture. Avoid being looked at by those with "evil eyes" or jealous people, and avoid toxic drugs.
9. Salt Skin Ding (Yanfu Ding): Large like a spoon surface, entirely red around the edges, with black millet-like granules rising. Salt is strictly forbidden.
10. Water-Washed Ding (Shuixi Ding): Large as a coin, shaped like a coin hole, white head, black depressed interior, with fluid discharge and hardness in the center. Avoid drinking grain-water and washing the area with water.
11. Knife and Sickle Ding (Daolian Ding): Width and narrowness like leek leaves, one inch long, with the left side blackened as if burned. Avoid puncture, cutting with knives/sickles, or injury from iron blades. Treatable with medicine, but do not attack recklessly.
12. Floating Bubble Ding (Fou Ding): The body is curved and round, slightly open, long and narrow like leek leaves, yellow inside and black outside. Puncturing the black part causes no pain, while puncturing the yellow part causes pain.
13. Cow Restraint Ding (Niujiu Ding): Flesh-colored, raised but unbreakable upon pinching.
For the above thirteen types of ding sores, initially the center itches then hurts, chills precede fever, and after the fever subsides, chills return. There is often heaviness in the four limbs, palpitations, and blurred vision. Severe cases involve vomiting and retching, which are difficult to treat. Among these, Mazi Ding only experiences itching throughout. Regarding the listed taboos, they must not be violated; violation makes the outbreak difficult to treat. For Fouding and Niujiu Ding, there are no specific taboos; even without treatment, they are not fatal, and their chills/fever patterns differ from other dings. All should be cared for according to proper methods, and taboos must not be violated. Violation leads to severe stiffness of the spine and unbearable pain. Furthermore: When ding swelling first appears, it protrudes like a nail cap, hence the name "ding." It causes nausea, aversion to cold, and stiffness/pain in the four limbs. Within one or two days, the sore turns scorched black, swells, becomes shiny, and the base hardens; puncture yields no pain. These are all signs. Locations on hands, feet, head, face, chest, back, and joints are most urgent. In other areas, if the toxin enters the abdomen, it causes restlessness, confusion, and a drunken-like state; such cases result in death within two to three days and require immediate treatment.
