The centers of both soles exhibit convex swelling, with black ding sores (a type of severe carbuncle) appearing on the surface, hard as nails. Fragmented holes form in the tibia with marrow oozing out. The body shivers with cold, yet there is a specific desire for food and drink. This indicates a conflict between cold and heat in the Liver and Kidney meridians. Treatment involves decocting Allii Tuberosi Semen (Jiu Zi) for daily oral administration, and externally applying powder of processed Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Chuan Wu).
In some cases, the fingertips suddenly itch first, followed by pain, and the fingernails turn black. On the second day, all toes turn black, and by the third day, the blackness spreads to the entire dorsum of the foot up to the tibial region. If the toes remain unblackened but the dorsum of the foot turns black, the treatment must employ herbs that greatly tonify Qi and Blood while draining toxicity. Use Gubu Tang (Gobang Decoction); if ulceration has already occurred, taking several more doses will ensure recovery without exception.
Gubu Tang (Gobang Decoction): Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix (Niuxi), Dendrobii Nobile Caulis (Jinchai Shihu) (each 1 liang), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen) (3 qian), Astragali Radix (Huangqi), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui) (each 1 liang), Lonicerae Japonicae Flos (Jinyinhua) (3 liang). Decoct these ingredients in water. After one dose, the black discoloration resolves; after two doses, pain ceases; after three doses, full recovery is achieved.
For blisters formed from calluses due to long-distance walking, apply a paste made of white flour and water; it flattens overnight.
Supplementary Formula: Women's Foot-Binding Formula (named Tuogu Tang [Bone-Loosening Decoction]): Almond (Xingren) (1 qian), Morus Alba Cortex (Sangbaipi) (4 qian). Decoct in five bowls of water in a new jar until reduced to three bowls. Add Mirabilite (Puxiao) (5 qian) and Frankincense (Ruxiang) (1 qian), seal the container, and continue heating until dissolved. Place the feet above the vapor, fumigating first, then washing. Perform this procedure once every three days. After more than ten treatments, the feet become soft as cotton. For those with ulcers or open sores, apply Schizonepetae Spica (Jingjie) powder.
Formula for Swollen Feet from Long-Distance Walking: Aconitum Kusnezoffii Radix (Caowu), Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng), ground into powder in equal parts. Spread inside the shoe sole, line with a cloth moistened with water, and walk upon it.
Formula for Winter Cracked Hands and Feet (named Huangla Gao [Yellow Wax Ointment]): Pure sesame oil (Qingyou) (5 qian), boiled slowly over low heat. Add a piece of yellow beeswax (Huangla) and boil together. Add a small amount of zinc oxide (Guangfen). Boil until purple. First wash the affected area with hot water, dry with fire/heat. Applying too much will cause hardness.
"Ding Chuang" (Ding Sores) refers to sores shaped like a nail head. Ancient texts discuss ten types of Ding sores. Hua Yuanhua discussed five colors of Ding sores. The *Qianjin Fang* also records Ding sores. Initially, they may resemble small sores or blisters, with indeterminate colors such as purple, yellow, green, or black. Symptoms like itching, pain, or numbness are also variable. They often occur on the head, face, shoulders, arms, hands, and feet, causing restlessness and confusion, aversion to cold with headache, vomiting and nausea, or limb stiffness and spasms. Treatment should involve acupuncture to drain evil blood until healthy blood appears, then stop. Insert Babing San (Ding-Extracting Powder) into the wound and cover with an ointment. If the sore head is depressed and acupuncture causes no pain or bleeding, puncture the surrounding areas to ensure bleeding occurs, insert medicine through the needle hole, and internally administer Duoming Dan (Life-Restoring Pill) or Duoming Tang (Life-Restoring Decoction) to induce sweating. Ding toxin is a dangerous condition with rapid progression. Those occurring on the head, face, ears, or nose are obvious; those on arms or feet covered by clothing are hidden and difficult to identify. Early detection leads to cure within a day; delay often results in death. Women suffering from "hidden Ding" are often initially misdiagnosed as Taiyang disease (Exterior Syndrome). When the toxin sinks and causes swelling, leading to coma and trismus, it becomes Zouhuang (Spreading Yellow/Toxin invading the Heart), which is often fatal. "Huang" here refers to toxin. If Ding toxin moves inward attacking the Heart, approaching unconsciousness, urgently administer Huiding San (Ding-Reverting Powder) 2 qian with warm water. Alternatively, crush five pills of Duoming Dan into powder, mix with scallion juice, and force-feed. Soon, severe pain occurs; this pain signifies the toxin transforming into yellow fluid. When pain stops, the disease is cured.
1. Red lines appearing on the hands, forearms, feet, or calves, extending like a thread, are named Hongxian Ding (Red-Line Ding). If it reaches the heart/abdomen or throat, it is difficult to treat, caused by reverse flow of Qi and Blood. Acupuncture to bleed immediately, then apply floating duckweed root (Fuping) for instant recovery. Note: *Yizong Jinjian* writes this as "Hongsi Ding" (Red-Silk Ding), not "Hongxian".
2. After acupuncture drains toxic blood from a Ding sore, take Babing San (particularly effective for Hongsi Ding): Viola Yedoensis Herba (Zihua Diding), Chrysanthemi Indici Flos (Ganjuhua) (each 1 liang). Decoct in water, take two doses to dissipate toxin, three doses for full recovery. If ulcerated, use this formula but add Danggui (2 liang); immediate recovery follows.
3. Daolian Ding (Knife-Sickle Ding): Broad shape like a leek leaf, over one cun long, flesh color purple-black. Acupuncture is contraindicated. Use raw alum (Shengfan) (3 qian) and seven stalks of white scallion (Congbai), pounded together and applied. Delayed treatment leads to Zouhuang and death.
4. When a person suffers from Ding, half the face swells suddenly, and the location of the Ding is unknown. Apply seven stalks of white scallion and one liang of honey, pounded together. Effect is miraculous.
Duoming Dan (Life-Restoring Pill): Dried Toad Skin (Gan Chansu), dissolved in wine; Calomelas (Qingfen); Moschus (Shexiang) (each 5 fen); Calcined Alum (Kufan); Arsenolite (Han Shuishi); Malachite (Tonglv); Processed Frankincense (Zhi Ruxiang); Processed Myrrh (Zhi Moyao) (each 1 qian); Cinnabar (Zhusha), refined (3 qian); Snail (Woniu), 21 pieces, crushed with shell into paste (omit if unavailable). Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Mix snail and toad skin paste thoroughly, combine with other powders, and pound into pills the size of mung beans. Take three pills per dose. Crush five cun of white scallion, insert into nostrils to induce sneezing, until sweat appears.
Duoming Tang (Life-Restoring Decoction): Lonicerae Japonicae Flos (Yinhua), Phytolaccae Radix (Caoheche), Paeoniae Radix Rubra (Chishao) (each 2 qian); Cicadae Periostracum (Chantui), Bombyx Batryticatus (Jiangcan), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng), Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Qianghuo), Angelicae Pubescentis Radix (Duhuo), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Qingpi), Polygoni Odorati Herba (Zelan) (each 1.5 qian); Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) (each 1 qian). Decoct in water, take hot, lie warm to induce sweat.
Huiding San (Ding-Reverting Powder): Earth Honeycomb (Tu Fengwo), preferably with larvae (1 liang); Ophichthidis Cutis Coriacea (Shetui). Wrap in mud and calcine in fire until carbonized (preserving nature). Grind into powder and mix for use.
Babing San (Ding-Extracting Powder): Realgar (Liuhuang), Toad Skin (Chansu) (equal parts). Grind into fine powder. Mix with scallion juice and honey to form pills the size of millet grains. Shape into long strips to facilitate insertion into the Ding sore.
