Bai Shao (Radix Paeoniae Alba, 1 liang), Hei Zhi (Fructus Gardeniae Praeparatus cum Cinere, 3 qian), Chen Pi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, 1 qian), Chai Hu (Radix Bupleuri, 1 qian), Hua Fen (Radix Trichosanthis, 2 qian). Decoct in water and take orally.
(This formula uses Bai Shao as the sovereign drug, taking advantage of its entry into the Liver meridian to soothe Liver Wood.)
Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng, 3 qian), Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, 1 liang), Fu Zi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata, 1 qian), Rou Gui (Cortex Cinnamomi, 1 qian), Wu Zhu Yu (Fructus Evodiae, 1 qian). Decoct in water and take orally.
When a person suffers from fever, one should first disperse the pathogenic wind; after the pathogen recedes, then tonify the healthy Qi, so that the healthy Qi will not be damaged by the pathogen.
Chai Hu (Radix Bupleuri, 1 qian), Jing Jie (Herba Schizonepetae, 1 qian), Ban Xia (Rhizoma Pinelliae Preparatum, 1 qian), Huang Qin (Radix Scutellariae, 1 qian), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 1 qian). Decoct in water and take orally.
Generally, the abnormal Qi of the four seasons invading the human body must enter through the skin and hair into Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi). Therefore, Chai Hu and Jing Jie are used to first disperse the pathogen in the skin and hair. Once the pathogen is dispersed, the Fire pathogen cannot cause disaster; furthermore, Gan Cao harmonizes the herbs to benefit the Middle Jiao, thus dispersing the pathogen without damaging the healthy Qi. (If the fever is caused by internal injury, this formula should not be used.)
Chai Hu (Radix Bupleuri, 1 qian), Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 1 qian), Chen Pi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, 1 qian), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 1 qian), Zhi Zi (Fructus Gardeniae, 1 qian), Bai Shao (Radix Paeoniae Alba, 2 qian), Hua Fen (Radix Trichosanthis, 2 qian).
For patients with Liver Wood stagnation, this formula brings immediate relief upon the first dose.
Blood aspect anterior and posterior: stool exits from the posterior orifice, urine exits from the anterior orifice—these are the most difficult to treat. However, essentially, they all involve bleeding from the lower part. The formula uses:
Sheng Di Huang (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata, 1 liang), Di Yu (Herba Sanguisorbae, 5 qian). Decoct in water and take orally.
The two conditions will heal themselves.
Generally, large and small bowel movements have their own meridians, but their source is the same, originating from Heat in the Bladder. Sheng Di Huang and Di Yu can both clear Heat in the Bladder; using them in one formula achieves both separation and combination in treatment.
The upper and lower symptoms differ; how to treat them? Treat the waist? Or treat the head? (Who would know that this is due to Kidney Qi obstruction?) One does not know that Kidney Qi connects upward to the brain, and the Qi below...
Shu Di Huang (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata, 1 liang), Du Zhong (Cortex Eucommiae, 5 qian), Mai Dong (Radix Ophiopogonis, 5 qian), Bei Wu Wei Zi (Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis, 2 qian). Decoct in water and take orally.
Generally, Shu Di Huang and Du Zhong are herbs for tonifying the Kidney, and relieving waist pain is their specific function. Now, why is the headache also cured? Although the formula is a Kidney-tonifying agent, when Kidney Qi becomes prosperous, it connects upward to the brain; therefore, the waist no longer hurts, and the head no longer hurts either.
