For newborn infants within the first three days after birth, Cinnabar Honey (Zhumi) must be administered. However, the dosage should not be excessive; excessive intake may cause Cold in the Spleen and Stomach (Pipi Leng), abdominal distension, a preference for stillness (Xi Yin), epilepsy (Xian Bing), or Qi urgency transforming into Jin Jing Spasm (Jing Jing).
For all newborns, three diseases must be prevented: one is Cuokou (Grasping Mouth), two is Zhuojin (Lockjaw), and three is Umbilical Wind (Qifeng). All are critical conditions, among which Cuokou and Zhuojin are particularly severe. If one does not realize that the pathology lies between the throat and tongue, believing the condition to be extremely grave, only three or four out of ten treated patients survive. But if preventive measures are followed beforehand, such misfortune can certainly be avoided. There are also diseases such as Goose Tongue Ulcer (Ekou Chong), Double Tongue (Chong She), and Hanging Abscess (Xuanyong); treating them according to prescriptions will lead to recovery without harming the infant.
After an infant feeds for the first time, wrap hair around a finger, dip it in clear water to wipe the oral cavity, and observe if there are two yellow veins on the gum roots. If so, cut them off with a reed knife and drip Pig Milk (Zhu Ru). Also observe if there are white spots on the upper palate; immediately scrape them off with fingernails, then burn a candle made of Hu Fen Paper (Hufen Zhi) to fumigate the area, which will lead to recovery.
Furthermore, if the infant shows unstable feeding, high fever, red complexion, and yellow nose, this indicates Zhuojin (Lockjaw). Immediately take half a he of Bamboo Sap (Zhuli), mix with a small amount of Cow Gallstone (Niuhuang), and administer to relieve Jaw Lock (Yaguan).
Additionally, one night after birth, hold the infant near a bright, windless place. Observe if there are red vessels extending straight upward from the umbilicus. At that moment, moxibustion (Jiu) of three moxa cones (Zhuang) should be applied at the end of the vessel; once the redness dissipates, there will be no harm.
Furthermore, if the red vessel has been cut or the white spots on the palate scraped off, take soil from a sparrow's rice jar and insects, grind them finely, mix with milk juice, filter through silk cotton, and drip into the mouth.
Moreover, after the infant consumes raw Licorice Root (Sheng Gancao), soak a small amount of Chinese Chive Seed (Jiu Zi) in warm water and apply the juice to the infant's lips. Reapply when dry, repeating more than ten times until cessation. Ensure the liquid does not enter the mouth.
Additionally, use fresh black donkey dung, wring out the juice, and apply it to the mouth; swallowing it is harmless.
Furthermore, take one da liang of Sichuan Pepper (Chuanjiao), wrap it in flour, shape it into a triangle, and burn until yellow and cooked. Cover the infant's mouth with silk cotton, pinch off the tip to the size of a chopstick head, allowing the pepper vapor to disperse.
Regarding the fetus receiving Qi during pregnancy: in the first month, it is a Pei (Embryo); in the second month, it is a Tai (Fetus); in the third month, blood vessels form; in the fourth month, the physical form is complete; in the fifth month, it can move; in the sixth month, bones and sinews are established; in the seventh month, it can recognize people; in the eighth month...
