Postpartum injury to the blood vessels leads to depletion. If the deficiency is not restored and is aggravated by overexertion, causing sudden violent bleeding that drips continuously, it is termed "Bengzhong" (Metrorrhagia).

For all cases of metrorrhagia:
With blood stasis:
To treat postpartum metrorrhagia presenting with dizziness, coma, restlessness in the four limbs, and loss of consciousness, use Shugan Dihuang San (Prepared Rehmannia Powder).
Herbs: Shu Gan Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, Prepared Root of Rehmannia) (1 liang), Fu Long Gan (Caulis Longii Fossilia, Fossilized Stomach Content of Long Cat) (1 liang), Huang Qi (Astragali Radix, Astragalus Root) (1 liang, sliced), Chi Shi Zhi (Halloysit Rubra, Red Halloysite) (1 liang), E Jiao (Colla Corii Asini, Donkey-hide Gelatin) (0.5 liang, crushed and stir-fried until slightly dry and yellow), Xiong Duan (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma, Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome) (0.5 liang).
The above herbs are crushed, sifted into a powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Add one zhong cup of water and half a fen of fresh ginger. Decoct to six parts, remove the dregs, and take warm at any time.

To treat postpartum metrorrhagia with continuous bleeding, where blood coagulates into clumps resembling chicken liver color and texture, use E Jiao San (Donkey-hide Gelatin Powder).
Herbs: E Jiao (Colla Corii Asini, Donkey-hide Gelatin) (1 liang, crushed and stir-fried until slightly dry and yellow), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Angelica Sinensis Root) (1 liang, sliced and slightly stir-fried), Xu Duan (Dipsaci Radix, Cynanchum Atratum Root) (1 liang), Di Yu (Sanguisorbae Radix, Sanguisorba Officinalis Root) (1 liang, sliced), Shu Gan Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, Prepared Root of Rehmannia) (1 liang).
The above herbs are crushed, sifted into a powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Soak 1 liang of Fu Long Gan (Caulis Longii Fossilia, Fossilized Stomach Content of Long Cat) in one zhong cup of water. Decoct to six parts, remove the dregs, and take warm before meals.

To treat postpartum metrorrhagia with continuous bleeding and lower abdominal pain, use Qilinjie San (Kirin Blood Powder).
Herbs: Qi Lin Jie (Santalum Rubrum, Dragon's Blood) (1 liang), Yu Yu Liang (Argillae Flavum, Yellow Halloysite) (1 liang, calcined and quenched in vinegar two or three times), Di Yu (Sanguisorbae Radix, Sanguisorba Officinalis Root) (1 liang, sliced), E Jiao (Colla Corii Asini, Donkey-hide Gelatin) (1 liang, crushed and stir-fried until slightly dry and yellow), Chi Shi Zhi (Halloysit Rubra, Red Halloysite) (1 liang).
The above herbs are finely ground and sifted. Take 2 qian per dose before meals, mixed with warm wine.

To treat postpartum metrorrhagia with excessive continuous bleeding, use Guijia San (Tortoise Shell Powder).
Herbs: Gui Jia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, Tortoise Shell) (2 liang, soaked in vinegar and roasted until slightly yellow), Hei Sang Er (Morus Alba Fruit, Mulberry Fruit) (2 liang), Lu Rong (Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum, Velvet Antler) (1 liang, de-haired, coated with butter and roasted until yellow), Yu Yu Liang (Argillae Flavum, Yellow Halloysite) (1 liang, calcined and quenched in vinegar), Chi Shi Zhi (Halloysit Rubra, Red Halloysite) (1 liang).
The above herbs are finely ground and sifted. Take 1 qian per dose before meals, mixed with warm wine.

To treat postpartum metrorrhagia with continuous dripping bleeding, sallow complexion, emaciation, and deficiency, use Baishao Yao San (White Peony Powder).
Herbs: Bai Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, White Peony Root) (1 liang), Mu Li (Ostrea Concha, Oyster Shell) (1 liang, calcined into powder), Shu Gan Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, Prepared Root of Rehmannia) (1 liang), Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Cortex, Cinnamon Bark) (1 liang), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, Dried Ginger) (1 liang, processed and sliced), Lu Jiao Jiao (Colla Cornus Cervi, Deer Horn Gelatin) (1 liang).
The above herbs are finely ground and sifted. Take 1 qian per dose before meals, mixed with warm wine.

Another prescription:
Herbs: Chi Shi Zhi (Halloysit Rubra, Red Halloysite) (1 liang), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Angelica Sinensis Root) (0.5 liang, sliced and slightly stir-fried), Mu Li (Ostrea Concha, Oyster Shell) (0.5 liang, calcined into powder), Lu Rong (Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum, Velvet Antler) (0.5 liang, de-haired, coated with butter and roasted until slightly yellow), Shu Gan Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, Prepared Root of Rehmannia) (1 liang).
The above herbs are finely ground and sifted. Take 2 qian per dose before meals, mixed with rice broth.

To treat postpartum metrorrhagia with prolonged continuous bleeding, red or black discharge, and pain below the umbilicus, use Cibai Wan (Platycladus Pill).
Herbs: Ce Bai Ye (Biota Orientalis Folium, Oriental Arborvitae Leaf) (1 liang, roasted until slightly yellow), Bai Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, White Peony Root) (1 liang), Huang Qi (Astragali Radix, Astragalus Root) (1 liang, sliced), Shu Gan Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, Prepared Root of Rehmannia) (1 liang), Xu Duan (Dipsaci Radix, Cynanchum Atratum Root) (1 fen), Dai Zhe Shi (Haematitum, Hematite) (1 liang), Sang Er (Morus Alba Fruit, Mulberry Fruit) (1 liang), Yu Yu Liang (Argillae Flavum, Yellow Halloysite) (1 liang, calcined and quenched in vinegar seven times), Ai Ye (Artemisiae Argyi Folium, Mugwort Leaf) (1 liang, slightly stir-fried).
The above herbs are ground into powder, mixed with refined honey, and pounded 300-500 times to form pills the size of small beans. Take 30 pills on an empty stomach, washed down with Huang Qi Tang (Astragalus Decoction).

To treat postpartum metrorrhagia with continuous bleeding, weakness, and debility, use E Jiao Wan (Donkey-hide Gelatin Pill).
Herbs: E Jiao (Colla Corii Asini, Donkey-hide Gelatin) (1.5 liang, crushed and stir-fried until slightly dry and yellow), Bie Jia (Trionycis Carapax, Softshell Turtle Shell) (1 liang, coated with vinegar and roasted until slightly yellow, remove skirt edge), Xu Duan (Dipsaci Radix, Cynanchum Atratum Root) (1 liang), Long Gu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi, Fossilized Mammal Bone) (2 liang), Xiong Duan (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma, Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome) (1 liang, de-haired, coated with butter and roasted).
The above herbs are ground into powder, mixed with refined honey, and pounded 300-500 times to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 30 pills before meals, washed down with warm wine.

To treat postpartum metrorrhagia with continuous bleeding, use Xiang Mo San (Incense Ink Powder).
Herbs: Xiang Mo (Ink Stick) (0.5 liang), Lu Feng Fang (Vespa Crabro Nidus, Hornet Nest) (0.5 liang, slightly stir-fried), Long Gu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi, Fossilized Mammal Bone) (0.5 liang).
The above herbs are finely ground and sifted. Take 2 qian before meals, mixed with a decoction of Gan Di Huang Tang (Rehmannia Decoction).

Another prescription:
Herbs: Ai Ye (Artemisiae Argyi Folium, Mugwort Leaf) (one handful, slightly stir-fried), Fu Long Gan (Caulis Longii Fossilia, Fossilized Stomach Content of Long Cat) (size of a chicken egg).
Mix the above herbs. Decoct in one large cup of wine to six parts, remove dregs, and divide into two warm doses before meals.

Another prescription:
Herbs: Mu Li (Ostrea Concha, Oyster Shell) (1 liang, calcined into powder), Tu Gu (Os Leporis, Rabbit Bone) (1 liang, coated with vinegar and roasted until slightly yellow).
The above herbs are finely ground and sifted. Take 2 qian before meals, mixed with warm wine.

To treat postpartum metrorrhagia with continuous bleeding and mental restlessness, use Dihuang Jiu (Rehmannia Wine).
Herbs: Sheng Di Huang Zhi (Jucius Rehmanniae Recens, Juice of Fresh Rehmannia Root) (half a small cup), Yi Mu Cao Zhi (Jucius Leonuri, Juice of Motherwort) (half a small cup).
Mix the above juices with one small cup of wine. Boil for three to five boils. Divide into three doses and drink frequently.

Prescription for treating postpartum metrorrhagia without cessation:
Herbs: He Ye (Nelumbinis Folium, Lotus Leaf) (1 liang, harvested on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month), Lu Jiao Jiao (Colla Cornus Cervi, Deer Horn Gelatin) (2 liang, crushed and stir-fried until slightly dry and yellow).
The above herbs are finely ground and sifted. Take 2 qian before meals, mixed with warm wine.

Another prescription:
Herbs: Bai Ji (Bletillae Rhizoma, Bletilla Rhizome) (0.5 liang), Ru Xiang (Olibanum, Frankincense) (1 fen), E Jiao (Colla Corii Asini, Donkey-hide Gelatin) (0.5 liang, crushed and stir-fried until slightly dry and yellow).
The above herbs are finely ground and sifted. Take 1 qian before meals, mixed with rice broth.

To treat postpartum metrorrhagia with foul discharge or thirst, use Chilong Pi San (Red Carp Skin Powder).
Herbs: Chi Li Yu Pi (Pellicis Cyprini Rubri, Red Carp Skin) (1 liang), Luan Fa (Capillus Humanus, Human Hair) (1 liang), Zong Lv Pi (Trachycarpi Fructus, Palm Fruit Peel) (1 liang, sliced).
Stir-fry the above herbs evenly in a pot using hemp stalk fire until smoke ceases. Cool down, add She Xiang (Moschus, Musk) (0.5 fen), and grind finely. Before meals, mix with one he of vinegar and two he of water, boil once, and take 1 qian.

To treat postpartum metrorrhagia with continuous bleeding, use Changpu Jiu (Acorus Wine).
Herbs: Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma, Rhizome of Acorus Tatarinowii) (1.5 liang, sliced).
Decoct in two large cups of wine to obtain one and a half cups. Remove dregs, divide into three doses, and take warm before meals.

Another prescription:
Herbs: Ci Ji (Cardui Thunbergii Herba, Thunberg's Milk Thistle Herb) (0.5 jin, washed and sun-dried).
Soak in five sheng of wine for three nights. Warm and drink as desired daily.
