Du ru (Breast abscess due to milk stasis) refers to a condition occurring after childbirth where the infant fails to suckle, or sucks but milk discharge is obstructed, or when breast distension occurs and squeezing does not fully empty the milk. All these factors cause milk accumulation and coagulation.
For postpartum du ru presenting with swelling, pain, high fever, and impending formation of an abscess, it is appropriate to administer Lianqiao San (Forsythia Powder).
Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus, 1 liang), Chuan Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 1 liang), Han Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix, 1 liang), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 1 liang), Chuan Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang, sliced and lightly stir-fried), Chuan Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas, 1 liang), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, 1 liang).
The above herbs are coarsely ground and sieved to make a powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Add one zhong of water, decoct until reduced to six-tenths, strain, and take warm after meals.

The above herb is ground into powder, mixed with egg white, and applied to the breast to dissipate the lump. If the issue is that the infant sucks but milk does not flow freely, repeatedly squeeze to expel the milk. It is also permissible to have an adult male suckle to promote lactation.
